Not questioning the usefulness, but don't see how different it is compared to cash, since every vending machine there also takes cash. I always prefer cash to prepaid cards, since you can always exchange the unspent cash for INR on the way back.

My point: you’ll save a lot of time by using Suica. If you use cash, you have to stand in line, buy a ticket, scan it at the gate, and then travel. But with Suica, just tap your phone (with the Suica card open), and you’re good to go.
What happens to the remaining balance in suica? Do they refund it when we close it?
you can't get refund, but you use it next time if you go to Japan again. And you can use the card at any stores like 7 eleven... so before coming back to india, use it fully... I have 18 JPY balance in my suica

JAL would have been obvious choice, but it's in Group A. Flying blue seems to be JAL partner, but unable to locate any JAL flight on its site. Air india showing 43K per side for economy.

if you have Marriott points, try to use AA to book JAL
That seems very costly.
ITC to mariott is 2:3, but Mariott to AA is 3:1. So, in net 2:1. And require 22.5K AA miles each side. So about 45K ITC miles per side. Air india is cheaper than this at 43K miles and will avoid so many transfers and tnc.
So we should load it in small denominations as required. Any loading charges?
I still think cash + CC is better. We were there for 12 days, these modes of payment were more than sufficient.

JAL is the cheapest in terms of miles (17.5k oneway) but comes with a hefty 15k tax/surcharge payment.
Low miles requirement and low taxes - you may try AA, Alaska
