Jio Wi-Fi Calling Hack Every Traveler Should Know

Hey TFCians,

Did you know?
You can use Wi-Fi Calling on your Jio SIM while on international roaming to call India at just ₹1 per minute — from anywhere in the world! 🌍

Jio’s pay-as-you-go roaming plans are already cheaper compared to many operators. Typically, it costs around ₹2 per minute from several countries to India. But in some places, the rates can go as high as ₹100 per minute.

#There’s a condition – you must have recharged with an international roaming pack at least once and activated international Wi-Fi calling.

For example, during my trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan last year, I had to make an emergency call to India — and one minute cost me ₹100. If I had used Wi-Fi Calling, the same call would have cost just ₹1 per minute.

On the other hand, Airtel currently doesn’t support Wi-Fi Calling while you’re on international roaming.

So as long as I am connected to WiFi of any network, I can use Jio WiFi calling?
Is it through that Jio App? or my Phone's Native dialer?

What I know, you must have activated international roaming plan... Only then Wi-Fi calling will work on Rs 1 per minute...
(Previously Those who were going in US for long vacation used to activate approximately 1100 IR plan for a month.)

It doesn't work like that. You need to do a special international roaming recharge of Rs1100. This is valid for one month and then, you can use some 920 odd Rs from this for calling at the rate of Rs1 per minute. After one month, this balance lapses. Basically, you are getting 900 odd minutes of India calls per month at 1100 Rs. You can't just call on an ad hoc basis without paying this monthly roaming charge.

Jio had 2 plans - Rs 1101 without WiFi calling and Rs 1102 with Wifi calling. It's still there.
If doing for the first time, we need to recharge it before leaving India (they say so).
+1 to @sunit123 above, if Wi-Fi is there, I use WhatsApp call wherever possible.
Why to even bother about normal call (or even recharge international roaming plan!)
VoIP is blocked/not allowed in many countries, hence can't use whatsapp call, outside...
Despite having great bandwidth.

yes. In some gulf countries, they use Botim app instead of whatsapp. But same - no need of regular call/recharge. It's call via botim app.
There are many legal and illegal ways for expats everywhere...
Botim was not allowed few years back, until some relaxation in policy related to VoIP calling.

Whenever I travel internationally, I don't even bother recharging jio. I receive free incoming sms for otp and transaction alerts.
