Recently got indusind pinnacle, haven't activated the card yet. But bank has charged joining fee on the card.

Probably they can, but you don’t need to pay unless you activate the card ..
so it’s not due for payment unless your card is in active state.. so no penalty or no late payment reporting…

Generally true, but RBI will disagree with this statement
My point is banks can do anything they want, and they do such shady things all the time.. the question is whether its right or wrong..
I understand what you said.. but not in all cases.. as it undermines the authority of RBI… they just can’t do anything they want ..

You must have done something implicit that accounts to activation of the card … if not you have a case to fight

Provide all the details date wise from start to end
Received welcome message/mail on 2nd feb. But didn't proceeded with activation, since card is with my close friend.
In between received a call on 7th feb to activate the card and even on calls being told it is LTF.
Told them will check with cc on mail.
Sent mail to CC, received reply yesterday(15feb) that annual charge is not there but joining fee is there.
Even on 14th Feb received message that PIN is not set on card, card will be cancelled in next 15 days.
Irony is while typing here received this message -
