Hi everyone,
I am currently looking for an HNI account, and I can maintain ₹25–30 lakhs in FDs. Here are my requirements:
  1. Debit Card with Unlimited Lounge Access - Compulsory.
  2. Good Internet Banking/Mobile Banking UI - I rely heavily on these services over branch visits.
  3. Premium Credit Card as LTF - Preferred.
  4. Family Banking Options.
  5. Minimal or Zero Charges - Preferred.
  6. Good Branch Service - While I don’t require an RM and don’t have high expectations from branch staff, it’s a plus if the bank provides good service.

Accounts I Currently Hold

  1. HDFC Preferred Banking - My primary SA
  2. IndusInd Select Account - for FDs
  3. Axis Eazy - for specific use
  4. Canara SB Gen - will close it soon
  5. SBI Regular SA - secondary SA
  6. Kotak 811 Super SA

My Experience with These Accounts

HDFC Bank:

Everything is fine except for the RM. They usually act in their own interest rather than mine. I feel Imperia is not worth it.
  • I am still struggling to get their core card and have dropped the plan for Infinia.
  • My mom has RG and I'm using it for sale offers/instant discounts

Axis Bank:

The branch experience is good, but I don’t know much about the Axis Burgundy account and whether I can get M4B with ₹30 lakhs in FD.
  • I am hesitant to trust Axis due to their unstable policies.

IndusInd Bank:

Let’s just say I could write a lengthy article about my experience, but I doubt anyone would read it.
  • In short, I am in a dilemma: should I upgrade to Pioneer or completely break my relationship with this bank?
  • They offer good returns on FDs, but their Internet Banking and Mobile Banking are not up to the mark.
  • Despite a long-standing relationship, I was unable to get their Pinnacle Card with a good limit.
  • I use to have multiple issues with this account but after closing my INDIE SA All my issues were resolved and everything is fine now.
Questions about IndusInd:
  1. Can I expect any changes in their credit card offerings if I upgrade to Pioneer?
  2. What about their debit card?

ICICI Bank:

I currently have two credit cards with ICICI but no savings account.
  • I love their user interface and am considering ICICI Wealth.

IDFC First Bank:

I had an account but closed it due to freeze issues.
  • I am open to considering IDFC Wealth if I can get their IDFC Wealth/Mayura credit card as LTF. While these cards aren’t highly useful, IDFC provides good returns on FDs.

My Credit Card Collection

  1. Axis Bank: Airtel, Ace, Neo
  2. ICICI Bank: Amazon Pay, Coral
  3. Federal Bank: Celesta
  4. SBI: Cashback
  5. HDFC: Tata Neu Infinity
  6. Kotak Bank: Myntra
  7. Yes Bank: Rupay
  8. RBL Bank: World Safari, Shoprite Rupay
  9. IndusInd Bank: Legend - "very low limit"
  10. IDFC First Bank: Select

Final Note

I don’t travel much currently but may in the future. For travel-related spends, I plan to apply for AMEX Plat Travel or Atlas. Hence, HDFC Infinia is no longer my target.
HSBC and SC - Not serviceable
You can also suggest public sector banks like BOB or SBI if they satisfy my requirements.
Thanks for reading through and providing your valuable input!

Try IDFC Wealth Account, comes with 10 Lac TRV.

  1. Debit Card with Unlimited Lounge Access - Compulsory
>> Not Unlimited, but 3+3 per quarter. (Self+Companion)
  1. Good Internet Banking/Mobile Banking UI - I rely heavily on these services over branch visits.
>> Best in the market right now.
  1. Premium Credit Card as LTF - Preferred.
>> You already have select, try upgrading it to wealth.
  1. Family Banking Options.
>> Available.
  1. Minimal or Zero Charges - Preferred.
>> Yup
  1. Good Branch Service - While I don’t require an RM and don’t have high expectations from branch staff, it’s a plus if the bank provides good service.
>> IDFC have almost everything online and can be done without any branch visits.
Still, it varies location to location. People have mixed experiences.

It comes without any "minimum expense/transaction in last month/quarter" rider? I think their wealth credit card has that rider which they don't give very freely now.

> Try IDFC Wealth Account, comes with 10 Lac TRV.

So basically across FDs + savings, right?

How are they in spamming? Do they spam/call a lot? Last time I tried around 4-5 years ago they harassed me so much on calls and SMSes that I had to get my a/c closed.

Yes. No minimum expense/transaction in last month/quarter criteria for Wealth DC. You can also avail 1 complimentary golf access per month on Wealth DC, if you are into golf. Read more here: https://www.idfcfirstbank.com/personal-banking/payments/cards/debit-card/visa-wealth-debit-card

Wealth CC has "20k spends in previous month" criteria to enable lounge.

Speaking of Bengaluru, at some branches you can get the IDFC Wealth account with initial deposit of 5 lac.

I have 1.5 years old IDFC Wealth account, and haven't received a single call regarding loan, etc.
Only I have spammed them with follow up calls.

Bob opulence 💳
. If 50 lakh get idfc private

I already shared about IDFC Wealth, do you have doubts about anything? They will upgrade your Select CC to Wealth CC. Just try now/after the account setup process. Mayura LTF is difficult. But, your lounges requirement is taken care of by the Wealth DC.

Apart, bob online and app experience will be not good. Good DCs are there, but they all will be chargeable.

Kotak is still behind IDFC Wealth in the proper offerings for HNI. They are also barred from issuing new CC as of now, so no CC negotiation with them.

Have you checked whether your city is on the list of 20 new cities where HSBC got approval from RBI to open branches? If it's there, then in a few months to a year, you will be able to join their premier program. Which is a no-brainer for all your requirements. Till then enjoy what you have!

Oops! I tagged you by mistake. Sorry for that! 😅
All your points are valid, and I don’t have any doubts about IDFC Wealth.

Thanks for sharing! my city is on the list of 20 new cities where HSBC got RBI approval, so that’s definitely something to look forward to in the future. Appreciate your insights!

As majority of them covered you most important doubts, there is nothing to add up.

- I would give Axis Burgundy (Magnus for Burgundy - Consider this only if you have high spends, else ignore)
- With 30L FD, try or push your BM/RM to give Imperia status and Infinia FD Based (Again check with HDFC if they can do, Hope they can do it)
- IDFC Wealth DC and IDFC Wealth CC are excellent with LTF Stuff and decent DC (Lounge access even Arrival lounges included on DC) as @NAB mentioned
- HSBC RBI thing it might take some more time not immediately (So immediate requirement may not be option)

Alright, this feels right up my alley. I have IDFC Private,(HNI ) and a friend has the Induslnd Pioneer Private (HNI) and Credit Card (FYF). Now, IDFC offers great benefits—you already know that. The real question is: how much can you park or maintain?

10L would qualify you for IDFC Wealth, while ₹10L would get you IndusInd Pioneer. When it comes to IndusInd, both the app and service are a mixed experience—but you already know that. On the other hand, IDFC offers one of the most seamless banking app experiences, so I’d recommend going with IDFC.

You won’t get Mayura or Ashva because I asked when both were launched as LTF, but they won’t be issued on an LTF basis. As for IndusInd, they would offer a credit card on a ₹1Cr balance, but with the ₹10L variant (FYF), the best they can do is offer one—though they likely won’t be able to.

HDFC Imperia doesn't offer anything so i have imperial you don't need Imperia, only basis/classis HDFC account is enough and try to not to invest into much in FD though cause over 5L and 40K interest is tax free. which also include saving interest too and RD too. so try to invest somewhere else though. or interest+princial when FD matured that would be better option.

10l in SA or 10L TRV for IDFC wealth and pioneer?
I can park a max of 30L currently

10L in SA is enough to open IDFC Wealth account.
In fact, if the branch folks tell you that you need to maintain 10L MAB for 2-3 months to get the Wealth program, then don't buy that statement.
Negotiate for right away after account opening or check with other branch.

Also, usually during this time of the financial year, IDFC starts offering 0 balance account. Folks usually take that account and then upgrade that to IDFC Wealth. You many want to check posts of @SSV that are related to this procedure.

This is the post @Quantum is referring to..
@Superxan just now liked it.. thats how I found it.. thanks mate @Superxan !!

  1. HDFC Preferred Banking - My primary SA
  2. IndusInd Select Account - for FDs
  3. Axis Eazy - for specific use

  4. SBI Regular SA - secondary SA

Here is my view about 4 of the six banks on your list that I have current experience with:

1. HDFC Imperia won't help you any with your CC and DC requirements. However, their basic banking infrastructure is the best amongst the four (I suspect that might have something to do with Imperia). And you may be able to snag a free locker if you are lucky.

2. IndusInd Select is just good for a bit better FD rates like you said. They are by far the worst of spammers. And their banking infrastructure is dated. There SMS alerts often arrive one or two days too late!

3. Axis Burgundy is nothing to write home about. And in my experience, they have not been an honorable bank. They often don't keep their promises.

5. Stick to the SBI regular SB account. Their netbanking is already very good. And you gain nothing much in addition (except added aggravation from enhanced expectations) with their Wealth program, -- not even a RuPay Select DC with just 25 - 30 lakhs!
