Axis Atlas MCC issue with Atlas CC hotel booking

I recently booked a hotel using my Atlas CC. Now the property belongs to the forest department and as I verified from the axis customer care they have used the MCC 9399, which falls under government transactions. So as per rules, I won't earn any EdgeMiles for this transaction.

Probablt this is a long shot; but is there any possibility to request Axis to grant me Edgemiles (maybe after showing proofs of the type of transaction)?

As per new T&C
"There is no change to the spend categories excluded from earning rewards and spendbased fee waiver calculation. However, to simplify, such transactions will be identifiedbased on the spend category (Utility & Telecom, Rent, Wallet, etc.) rather than the assigned4-digit Merchant Category Code (MCC)."

Axis will decide whether to go MCC-based or Category-based, depending on which suits them at the moment.

I went till RBI for asking them to consider category based earnings but they have considered on MCC basis only. Lost a huge chunk to Air arabia

The only way to know whether we will get 5EM or just the base 2EM is by running test transactions. But doing test spends isn't practical in every scenario, especially for larger bookings. And with Axis, who knows how many “special exclusions” exist beyond 'Air Arabia'?

Making a failed txn (by setting low limit or turn off txn) and asking customer care for MCC code might help. Then do actual txn.

But on airlines website one assumes that such a big airlines would have incorrect MCC

Technically that should be the case but some airline websites have become like third party portal selling holidays, car rental, hotels.. that allows them to take MCC as third party aggregator.. need to put that effort to check MCC for that.

Another option can be searching in google or technofino thread about the airline you are booking, mostly you will find some article if the site does not give 5x on Atlas.

I understood this option once I didn't get the required miles. Went on to RBI escalation but Axis are stuck with MCC code
