My Amex Platinum Charge is suspended with no annual fee refund

Hi,

My Amex metal was under financial review for last 2 weeks. I have sent all the documents they wanted but today they informed me my account is cancelled. Both My platinum charge card and platinum travel card got canceled.

Case number - CL-IN5LZ54

The didn't tell the reason for the cancelation or for putting my account in review. But I assume it's because I paid the card bill once or twice from my wife's bank account since they asked me about that in detail. My spend was around 30L-35L.

Worrying thing, I paid my yearly renewal fees(around 80k I think) for my platinum charge card only in December 2024. I have asked them to refund this because its been only 1-2 month. They are saying its non-refundable even though they are the ones who canceled the account.

I have been using AMEX since 2017. Completely disappointed with this level of service. I still haven't paid this month due ~ 3 Lak. I wanted to wait until they solve this refund issue.

What are my options here? Has anyone experienced this?

I would 100% not recommend AMEX to anyone if they are just going to steal 80k in the name of annual service fees and not provide any service.
 
very strange. is that all that happened? doesn't seem like ground enough for card suspension without informing in advance, that too for Amex plat charge.

Thats all that happened. They wont give me any other reasons. I work in IT so all my finances are completely legal and accounted for. I was even ready to provide more documents so they can verify source of funds and etc. They simply cancelled it.
 
raise a grievance here and see if it helps. Ask for detailed explanation and if not satisfied RBIO is your last resort

I have already raised the complaint there. They called me back today and told me that once the annual fees are paid, they won't refund that for any reason. I told them I would not clear the dues until they issued a refund.

Would really like to know if others who got their card cancelled and how they navigated this issue.

I work in IT. I have valid ITR and all source of funds documents. 90% of my spends are on shopping and travel. All under my name. I don't have any business expenses in AMEX.

I know lot of members here praise and push AMEX on new users because of the referral bonus. But I hope moderators make this thread more visible to show the other side as well.

If anyone has some ideas on how can I get the refund on my annual fees, please let me know.

so finally, you got to know the reason or not? Better to pay your dues and then fight for annual fee refund than to take chance and get a cibil hit for late payment.

Their official answer is, "My card got cancelled because of some internal and external parameters". Which basically means they won't tell whats the reason. And I asked multiple times if they want any more documents like the source of funds and etc. They said they don't need any more documents.

Are any of these spends business related spends that you are putting on the card? There might have been some transactions that got flagged.
