no use of Rupay UPI credit card

I recently transferred my Business Regalia credit card to Rupay version thinking it will be very useful. Its been a few months now and I have not been able to make a single UPI transaction yet.

1. Today morning, I tried to pay our milkman via UPI. I was using Payzapp and he was using paytm. I got an error saying ' benificiary bank declined the transaction'.
2. Visited a local grocery store and tried scanning QR code to pay via credit card. It said 'not supported'.
3. Tried making a payment at a local restaurant and again it UPI did not work.
4. The card was a complete failure on our recent trip to Nepal where visa and mastercard worked just fine.
5. The card has international lounge access available with a direct swipe. It failed.

Overall, I do not understand the hype around UPI via Rupay credit cards yet and feel either of the following can be the reason.
1. Either UPI on credit cards is dead on arrival due to higher charges.
2. It is a work in progress and a lot remains to happen.
3. The banks are pushing out Rupay cards due to govt pressure and are treated inferior to Visa and mastercard.
4. Rupay is more hype and Visa and mastercard are still the bosses.

Should I hold on to the Rupay card or shift back to Visa/ Mastercard version?

This card doesn't make any sense now because of its low reward rate and devaluation in lounge access
try to get BizBlack Metal or better to go with any other cashback cards from HDFC.

When I tried to downgrade my bus Regalia to Millennia they offered me the rupay variant but I refused the offer and pushed them to proceed with Millennia fortunately I got Millennia.

No use in changing it's card network upgrade to any other card.

There are far better cards in this range...

Try adding your card on GPay, BHIM, Samsung Wallet etc. It should work. The declined transactions could be a payzapp issue.

@Abhishek012 bhai
So far my tata neu no issues inside India

ok. will try using BHIM app as it seems to be the defacto UPI app.

What about rejection of international lounge access?
Hdfc is weaning everyone away from Regalia to other variants. There must be some spend based lounge access condition. Do check whether you have fulfilled it to unlock the lounge access benefit. Also do check lounge access by registering on Dreamfolks -

I understand How frustrating it could be when transaction fails.

1. When you paid your milkman : there might be 2 problems: Either the Bank is not working(most probably SBI) or he didn't have a merchant account.
2. In your nearby Grocery store, it's not supported because the Owner has kept his Personal account(Probably he's not having merchant account)
3.Same case with the local restaurant
4. In Nepal, UPI doesn't work. Rupay has its own INTERNATIONAL CURRENCY conversion problems.
5. Lounge access may be failed. You have given incomplete information. Is it failed for INTERNATIONAL LOUNGE Access or DOMESTIC LOUNGE or INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL Lounge inside INDIA?

For your UPI Credit card to work, please make sure you scan only MERCHANT QR's to pay as UPI via P2P is not allowed from credit card. Only merchant payments are allowed and even in this case, merchant has the option to DISABLE to receive money from Rupay or UPI Credit cards.

UPI Credit card is just fine and it's a good card to pay via QR codes and enable INDIA's OWN PAYMENT System for a self-reliant INDIA.

Yes, a lot need to be done as it's just a start.

I have domestic and international lounge accesss available including on addon card as confirmed by HDFC. I also used the domestic lounge on the way with my family. The machine at the lounge did not read my Rupay credit card for swipe (Rupay cards do not get priority pass)

I have used 'Scan QR code' system every time.

In Nepal, I used the card on a POS, not UPI. the card did not work (this was for Nepal rupee). Amex worked like a charm.

I will try to make it work, otherwise I will just keep this HDFC card in the drawer. (Already cancelled one HDFC card before).

After using BHIM app i am sure you will be keep visiting this thread often...whining about its issues in transactions.
Don't try to be a "ANTI" indian in every aspect.
Use GPAY/PAYTM/PHONEPE for seamless transactions.

Please visit this thread for the probable solution: CPGRAMS - Rupay CC UPI not accepted by merchants

There are two possible reasons. (1) vendor has personal account. You cannot pay with rupay credit card to another person. (2) Merchant has option to disable payment through rupay credit card as they need to pay 1-2% for credit card transactions. Many vendors do disable the credit card payment.
You can avoid the merchant and tell him that you buys from another vendor as you do not receive the credit card payment. Some vendor may enable it. Government should make some changes.. like nil MDR charges for say under 500 Rs transactions or charge 1% on all upi transactions then vendor will not disable it.

When Rupay credit cards were introduced two years ago by PSU banks (only) I did everything viz opening savings account as a qualifying criteria (Indian,UBI, Canara) and visiting their branches with copies of Aadhaar, PAN, IT return and payslips (Indian,UBI, Canara, PNB) and got Rupay credit card from all of them. Only BoB offered online Rupay card.
So far using all of them and earned rewards ( high initially now low). Now after having ICICI Rupay card, planning to close all PSU bank Rupay cards.
Nowdays I observed that government websites and few private merchant websites do not allow Rupay credit card payment. Unless MDR is settled Rupay credit card payment acceptace cannot grow though there is growing acceptance at mom and dad stores.
Expecting rewards earling with Rupay credit card using UPI is something I believe is not fair as many transactions are below Rs. 100 and MDR is not still not established.
My experience with Rupay credit card upi payment using many card is great.
With UPI many merchant's have started telling Visa Mastercard Discover credit card machine are not working. They started liking getting cash in account hence they might start accepting Rupay credit card upi payment gradually. So Rupay Credit Card is the future.
