Payment through CRED is Unreliable

Hi, this is a basic information post regarding payment of credit card bill through CRED app.

Many people believe that payment of credit card bills through CRED app is instant or maximum it will take 24 hours for payment to reflect in credit card. But it is not 100% true.

I had done payment on Amazon pay ICICI credit card on 2nd Jan at 9:15 pm through UPI and more than 36 hours had passed, it is to deposit in the card. On cred app, initially it was showing that it is expected to be deposit in card within 24 hours but now it is showing expected deposit to card is 05 Jan. I have raised a ticket through CRED app. I have got my lesson that I will stop using these unreliable 3rd party apps or will do payment a week before.

My due date is 5th Jan and amount is 7000 so I can afford to wait till today's evening. If not credited, I will again do payment through ICICI imobile app. Let the amount be double credited. So my suggestion is do payment a week before and never depend on any 3rd party apps for instant payments.

see thumb rule for cc payment should 5/3 days before due date cause you need to consider holiday too , i have too had similar experience with Apay paid on 21st October, diwali was on 23rd not yet credited ,(Due date was on 24th) for safety i made a payment through cred earlier it was from hdfc netbanking portal and it got settled instantly cause i checked through mobile app and it was reflecting on my card and on 25th hdfc settled with icici so lesson isn't using any third party app the lesson should be pay before 5 days or calculate or any bank holiday if you really want to pay near the due date.

I think it’s a rare case, mostly for icici cc , payment is credited within 2 hours of payment

But yeah , it’s good to pay in advance just to be sure , also I think as per RBI policy if there is a delay due to payment processing at bank ends then banks can’t mention it to Cibil as late payment , also as per new RBI policy even after due date there is some grace period that banks need to give prior to mentioning it to credit bureau
3days grace period

I stopped using CRED altogether.

Beware of their TnC because once things go sideways it might take over a month to get your money back.

As per their TnC you will have to wait 72 hours before you can reach out to customer support and start an investigation. This might take anywhere from a day to a week.
Once they're done with the investigation they have 21 working days to refund it. That's well over a month.

If you have no more money available to settle rent or your credit card bill, that's NOT their issue, it is YOUR ISSUE.

  • The rewards are a joke.
Not even a tenth of the charges they have, whereas competitors have much less charges and plenty of offers.

All the rewards are sponsored coupons or partnerships, and when you do the math and see the product/services, 99% of them are utter garbage or worthless. Lots of dating, horoscope, gambling, sexual products, etc. They've become a worthless shady garbage entity to my eyes when it comes to those partnerships. Garbage belongs together and that's what I'm seeing.

Like all these membership are like 50-90% off a a subscription worth [insert extremely overinflated price here], many of them are known to be bad or useless services.

  • They're unreliable
They used to settle transactions within minutes and without failures, and now it's like flipping a coin.
It has taken up to a week to reflect for Axis cards since middle of last year.

What's my problem? They say it is settled and that there's nothing to worry, but the moment s*** hits the wall they just wash their hands and say they "we have credited the payment and it's a bank issue now, please call them".
From there on the customer support just vanishes as they are "not" responsible and it is "not under our control", and won't further assist in making sure the transactions they started are going through.

While I can try to be understanding, once they initiate the transaction (probably a bank transfer) their support ends there.
Seems like they'll only pick it up after the banks does something or you escalate it.

All you'll have is the amount, date and UTR number in the transaction history which multiple times the bank was unable to find. Isn't this UTR used for tracking transactions across banks? Why are they unable to find them?

  • Past experiences
4 transactions went awfully wrong.

Two transactions done in the same day to different cards took almost 4 weeks to get resolved and get refunded.
Another one took 7 working days to get credited. (So paid on Monday, credited Tuesday on following week. That despite raising several tickets)
Last one also took over a week and was stuck on the limbo and after 2 weeks it got refunded back. I couldn't even open a ticket on that specific transaction because they had a bug on certain types of transactions that were stuck. I had to raise it on a different one to get them to call me.

There's no phone number to call or email. If you try raise a support request within the app it WON'T let you until their timeframe has passed.

Paying Axis cards via IMPS is instant and anyways at the end they're both debited from my bank account.

CRED is useless, unreliable with worthless rewards.

If you enabled the permissions they wanted (email), they'll be sniffing all your email.

So be aware of how they collect and use your data, because they use it to
"curate" specific financial/investment/other products for you based on your financial transactions, investments, and past financial behaviour.

I agree with this point 100%.
Please don't enable this feature. Don't give them permission to read all your emails.

My experience and opinion of CRED is very similar.

To avoid this , I personally maintain separate email for separate banks , and all are linked to my personal mail , like for axis I have a separate mail similarly for idfc , icici etc. all together I have around 10 mails for different banks and other stuff. That way my personal mail is untouched and even unspammed and only to be used specifically for personal purposes.

Not sure how good this method is , but it’s going good for me , using it since a decade now . Similarly one of my number is dedicated to banking/other registrations and the other one for personal that way I rarely get any spam calls on my personal number

divide and conquer method.

This is a perfect use case for Fastmail. Give it a try! However it's best used along with 1Password, they even have integrations between each other. I have started doing it with most websited/apps I don't feel comfortable giving them my personal email so I make an alias for it which is unique to that website yet I receive emails on my inbox as if it was to my personal email and viceversa.
Also I get to know who is sharing or selling my personal data when I receive spam to any of my specific site aliases.

My due date is 5th Jan and amount is 7000 so I can afford to wait till today's evening. If not credited, I will again do payment through ICICI imobile app. Let the amount be double credited. So my suggestion is do payment a week before and never depend on any 3rd party apps for instant payments.
Similar issue observed earlier, so maybe CRED is not at fault here

I use Cred ONLY to keep a track on my Bill Generation. Other than that, I mostly pay using the Credit Card provider's own payment system.
Like SBI Cards allow payment directly from their website/app, so does BOB and they are not only the safest options, but also can use Debit Cards (mostly RuPay are extensively available, which I have).
Few cases are possible, where banks don't allow payments directly from their app/website, like stupid Axis bank, where you need to have an account, to make payment. In that case, I rely on some secure 3rd party apps like Amazon Pay or a bank's Bill Payment system. Although it takes 3-5 days, it's safer than anything, and one must never miss a Credit Card payment, even if it is bank's fault.
So, for paying Credit card bills, I say, don't even take known risks.
