Plat Travel Upgrade Offered

Hey Guys,

Just received an email from amex to upgrade to plat. travel from mrcc. Upon upgrading i get some gift, 10k points I guess as it says so as welcome gift and 1k amazon voucher. First year fee is 3.5k and then 5k as next year.

Should I upgrade? I see monthly expenses being around 25-50k for 9-10 months our of 12 in a year. Spread across restaurant payments, zomato/swiggy, online portals. I used to make use of 1500*4 amazon gv atleast on mrcc till december last year but didn't have any significant spends on amazon so stopped that for now until i have planned purchases via amazon.

Confused if i should be upgrading? Or applying tbrough someone else's referral is a better idea at first year free and then fees from 2nd year.

My mrcc has a 100% fee waiver if i spend 1.5L in a year. And 50% if i spend 90k.

1k fees for mrcc as first year and 4.5k from 2nd year? Seems too expensive in 2nd year if incase I don't spend that much on this card. Then wouldn't i be better off upgrading to plat. Travel and pay 5k in fees plus i get lounge benefits as well.

Can mrcc be companion to plat. Travel? If yes then as of this offer applicable until tomorrow, should i upgrade to plat travel considering the welcome benefits and then apply again for mrcc as companion? Or should i apply for plat travel separately and ask amex to keep my mrcc as companion?

Like i have fee waiver in mrcc as stated above? Does plat travel offer spend based fee waiver?

I have the same setup but my points are not getting pooled together, when I checked with customer care, they said they have stopped this facility.


It seems I am missing the Gold Card. I have only Plat Travel and MRCC and my points are calculated seperately

I have gold and plat travel. ~19k points earned via gold. and ~5.5k earned via plat travel. I can redeem 24k GOLD collection.

I suppose almost everyone with amex lower variant card is being offered platinum travel card... For part 5 months every month my mailbox is flooded with offer stating LAST CHANCE TO UPGRADE

MRCC...
Gold Charge card..
Both provide decent returns even on smaller expenses...

But its just enough for two room nights in a Marriott Hotel.
10000 Taj voucher (worth 10000 x 8000/14000 = 5714) is not enough for one night stay

How is 10000 Taj voucher worth only Rs.5714? Aren't vouchers accepted at the hotel at face value against the bill?

Accepting but room booking tariff is at high normal prices not at member concession rate we use these AmEx taj vouchers

Because American Express itself values the 14000 Taj voucher at 9000 Amazon pay, which is 8100 real cash

I have stayed in Taj MG road for 7k inclusive of tax and used voucher for stay and food expenses any extra paid by cc. Of course most properties are beyond 10k but u can try taj gir serai if u havenplan to visit last month it was 3400k with tax 4k so with one voucher 2 days we can stay

These are extremely cheap rates for Taj.

This is in bangalore MG Road it is a 5 star rating hotel. TAJ AS 4 PROPERTIES TAJ MG Road, Taj Westend Race Course road, Taj Bangalore airport , Taj Yeshwanthpur plus they have Vivanta Hotels too on residency road.

Infact am staying for two days in Taj Westend tommorrow for 2 adults i got it for per day 12600 so total 25k inclusive of breakfast and which is inclusive of 25% discount applied this i got it on standard rates as i redeemed my shareholder coupon which expires on 30th june 2024. Also am going to utilize my last remaining 25% discount coupon for food and beverages for 2 days upto 25k in that i already utilized it around 15k in Rajasthan at Taj Jai Mahal Palace which costed me 30k for 2 days room stay inclusive of breakfast.
Guest are taken care very well in Taj.

Plus i sometimes stay in oberoi hotel on MG Road which is also 5 star and well maintained guest room. Here to i manage to get it for 10 to 13k per day inclusive of tax just for relaxation and fun. Yes even in oberoi rates do come to per day upto 25k to 30k without tax somehow i get lucky to get in range. During covid i stayed in Oberoi for 5 k per day inclusive of tax and taj properties too for 6k. At that time taj mg road was offering 3800 per day i utilized it to fullest after that it hovers around 7 to 20k.

I stayed in Sawai man mahal Rajasthan for a week inclusive of breakfast for 7 nights and 8 days and my total bills was 120k. I keep searching every two months for other properties too where i have not visited.

Next experience i want to stay leela palace in bangalore it is always hovering 15k for delux some times it comes down to 11k. Even 15k is worth it for a experience. My last wish is to take my mother to Taj Lake Palace udaipur for 2 days and then stay 2 days in oberoi which is adjcent to it which inwill do. Let us see what future holds.

Once a year they send coupon for stay and breakfast spa and another coupon for food and beverages upto 25k which can be utilized 10 times same coupon. Min 2500 per dining price only then this coupon will be applied for 25% discount. Attached for your reference. This is second time i received in two yrs as i purchased their shares 2 yrs back usually by end of financials they send. Check your email expiry is 30th june 2024 not sure for u
