PSA - HDFC CC bill payment: avoid the TRAP!

if the bill is 999.45, i used to pay 1000 as rounded off figure.

this was okay till last month, whenever i paid my hdfc cc bill through the app (i also have hdfc account).

this month, when i enter the custom amount, it doesn't allow me and gives an error that i cannot pay more than the outstanding balance.

IMPORTANTLY:
while paying bill, there are 3 options- pay min due, pay total, and pay other amount.

here, the 'pay total' option is showing 999!!
they used to add the decimal part also earlier, but now i see they have rounded it down. so avoid this trap if till now you were blindly trusting hdfc and selecting 'pay total' option.

REASON WHY I AM CALLING THIS A TRAP:
a few months back someone has posted the exact same problem with RBL card (not 100% sure if it was rbl). he selected pay total, which was rounded down in the app, and that led to default of payment.
he had to go through some trouble to get it removed.

what i did:
i entered the decimal amount manually and paid. then i also added 1 rupee more, and it did not give me an error!!!
what is interesting is that, the 1 rupee i paid did not get added to my available credit limit (don't know if it was the same case earlier, but my other bank cards add it over the total limit).

be alert folks!!

You can pay through Internet banking credit card bill for HDFC, it allows to enter even 1rs to pay. But not in their Mobile app.. Same bank two different rule..

it is allowing me to enter any amount that i want in the app also.
the problem is that:
1. 'pay total' is rounded down automatically from this month. whereas banks wont let the few paisa go like in rbl case.
2. not able to pay amount more than the balance amount in 1st try.
3. any extra amount paid in the next transaction after you clear your dues is not added to total credit available if above total limit.

yes, so in this case, you will manually type 0.21 then it will allow i guess. and after this transaction, if you pay 1 rupee, it will get paid. but that 1 rupee won't get added to your limit.

I used to pay hdfc card from scb bill pay
Any amount I can type so no issue

i see..i think a tweak would be to buy something of very small amount, maybe wallet load, and then pay1 rupee...that way your past dues will get cleared...i dont want to experiment with hdfc and see if they default for 21 paise...that too this is a problem only for app it seems. but check once on internet banking too to see if they have changed it there.also.

Why not simply use CRED to make balance payment or perhaps rounded-up value or even Re.1?

CRED minimum pay 10rs.

I don't have problem now bro, all am saying HDFC app and internet banking are not behaving same..

This was the same issue with ICICI earlier. In the pay total due, it will round off to lower value below 50 paise. I mailed customer care and nothing came out of it. Finally it was fixed sometime ago.

Is paying the bill amount to the very last paisa necessary?

Eg. If I've a bill of 5,400.41. Paying a bill of 5,400 won't be sufficient? Do banks levy penalty and interest on that 41 paisa?

they levy...interest and report you as default.
happened with some other user on this community with the RBL Zomato card if i remember correctly. a few paisa difference.
