SBI's Air India Signature card is devalued heavily with 30% RP for booking tickets for self now reduced to 10% (same as booking for others): 1740718997626.webp

SBI has sent out an email today announcing a limited devaluation.

Whats new?

Starting 31 March 25, card holders will not receive the current 30 reward points for every 100 Rs. spent purchasing tickets on Air India for self.

This will reduce to 10 reward points per Rs. 100.

Round 1?

This is the second wave of devaluation after the initial measures that started in December when they have started levying a charge of 1% on utility transactions of over Rs. 50,000 in a statement cycle.

Who's impacted?

If you are someone with who frequently buys tickets for self on Air India, this is going to hit you pretty bad. For the rest of the users, like me, who use the card for other spends and accumulate points for redemption on Air India, nothing changes.

Should you still keep this card?

Despite the two rounds of devaluation this remains a very good card. Regular spends (non-excluded categories) yield 4 reward points per Rs. 100 spent. Which is a very good reward rate considering a value of Rs 0.50, making it effectively 2% value back for redemption. (I've gotten at least Rs 0.65 per point for my redemptions)

But,

What's great about this card are the milestone benefits at 3 levels:

20,000 bonus points for Rs 5 lakh
30,000 bonus points for Rs 10 lakh
50,000 bonus points for Rs 20 lakh

And, you get reward points for utility spends too although there's a 1% charge beyond 50k per statement cycle.

That's phenomenal value back which very few cards give.

Hi all, I was transferring miles from my SBI Air India Signature card to my Maharaja Club account... As per the current mile transfer offer I want to make only 1 transfer, but on the app, there are only 2 denominations of points 10k and 15k... Now I can make any combination of 5k with them, but will a combination of 10k and 15k be considered one transaction?

Call SBI customer care and ask them to transfer all the eligible points(or whatever quantity you'd like) to your Air India account. They will do it for you. Usually takes 3-4 business days to reflect in the Maharaja club account.

@thelazycamel

So far, besides the devaluation announced by SBI (on reward rates for tickets purchased for self on Air India app/website) there hasn't been any other major problem with the card programme itself from a user perspective.

Regular reward rate, milestones are continuing at the same level making this card as valuable as ever.

Not sure how long this would continue though given the rumors about new cards that Air India has been working on with unknown banks.

They will issue new cards when they have finalised the offering for Air India cards which were previously Vistara cards
