Devaluation SBI Cards: No more points on govt. transactions

Please note:

Accrual of Reward Points on Govt Related transactions with your credit card will be discontinued, with effect from 1 June 2024.

Government related transactions shall be identified under Merchant Category Codes (MCC) 9399 and 9311, on best effort basis. The MCCs are defined by the network partners and are subject to change basis their discretion and such changes shall be implemented basis communication from the networks without any requirement for intimation/information to the customers.

I understand that for tax payments alike things it make sense. However, I was surprised when no points were creditd for hotel booking on JK tourism web site indicating as govt transactions.

hi, Do you mean , reward points will be credited. I made gandola ride booking also on JK tourism site last month and rewards points are not even credited for those. Current hotel transaction was done 3 days back.

Wait for atleast 7-10 working days. If you still do not get points then contact customer care via email.

It will depend on MCC. Even Balmer-Lawrie has govt MCC.

Kendriya Bhandar- a govt goods shop also has govt mcc.

Tourism/hotels facilitated by govt. entities will not give reward points. I had same experience with Himachal tourism transactions including their bus booking.

This does not look good. Hotel booking govt tourism sites are no different than pvt hotel sites. Why should it be equated to tax payments etc.

correct. someone had a lot of points loss for his dubai trip as his spends were marked govt. txns.
