SBI cashback card for Insurance premium usage

Hello,

Did anyone try and see if SBI cashback card for Insurance premium usage gives 5 % cashback ?

Did anyone actually try it ? or everyone saying based on the social media information ?

I paid insurance premium of LIC on amazon and got 5%. I did txn in Oct 2022, not sure about current status.

If you pay directly on insurance website, it might be considered for utility and get 1%.

I chose confirm way of purchasing Amazon gift cards (this already gave me 5% cashback) and then paying using Amazon Pay balance for insurance payment.

@bugmenot Are you still getting 5% CB? I tried a payment on Amazon.in, the merchant name for insurance is AMAZONINSESC (both with partial gc and without gc).

Yes I got 5%. Did direct payment of insurance on amazon on 3rd March, didn't use GC. Merchant name was AMAZON PAY INDIA PVT LTD

For normal orders, the merchant name was AMAZON PAY INDIA Private Limited (NOT the shortened Pvt Ltd) which gave 5%.

Can't rely on merchant names. Mcc code matters and that's not visible to us

Probably it may have dynamic mcc based on insurance amount. I have premium amount less than 10K. This is just wild guess.

Hm, true. Seems like the last resort would be to buy GC from gyftr but they too ain't giving 2% discount anymore or pay via AmazonPay ICICI card for guaranteed 2%. Unclear when the gyftr discount will be back.
