SBI Cashback card marked my flight bookings of 30K on ease my trip as utility and bill payment and didn't provide cashback on that. Even after calling customer care or mailing them they are not understanding the issue and ask me to wait. My statement is already generated and i haven't received any cashback on that

It's an issue from the easemytrip then. No point fighting with SBI for CB.

EMT is responsible for this, I have had a similar issue with Yatra payment 2 years ago using SBI Cashback and again with Utility thingy a few months ago for a different card.

Every payment you make and its qualification for cashback/offer comes down to the MCC code the card was charged for by the payment gateway. If the MCC is one of these for any reason, it's on the party who is charging the card -

In my case, Yatra charged me under 4112 (Railways) for a Flight Booking, and that was just around the Yatra's IPO, but no one did anything when I asked on X and over emails. SBI Card was cool enough to let me know the MCC and their inability to help in this matter.

If your MCC for this transaction is one of the Utility MCCs above, SBI Cashback have them covered themselves with this MITC. Also, I don't think EMT or any vendor for that matter would consider this or compensate, as they don't know when and why you are using a card. You need to take this pill and move on I think.

For EMT, if the merchant name in SMS says "BillJunction" stop right there and never do the transaction. These frauds don't want to take up the issue with their acquirer bank and get the correct MCC issued to them. If the name says "EasyTripPlanners" go ahead and do the txn

@Abhishek012 please confirm sir
Tell EaseMyTrip team that they owe you 5% actual cashback, and if it is not credited, you will go to any extent to get it resolved and will also demand compensation for harassment and mental distress.

This happened to me once with Cleartrip. They tagged my transactions under “utility,” and I didn’t receive anything. I fought with Axis Bank, but they were not at fault.

I then blasted Cleartrip with all my energy, telling them they were engaging in unethical practices by assigning random MCC codes to flight transactions. I warned them that if I didn’t get my cashback, I would take the matter to consumer court. This approach worked, and Cleartrip refunded 5% of the transaction value to my Flipkart Axis card.
