Setting up UPI for parents

Hi , I want to setup UPI for parents. They are not tech savy so I am thinking of creating a new bank account for them.

I will add some minimal fund in the new bank account for their day to day UPI payments.

Please suggest a good bank(preferably which can be opened online) and has good app for UPI.

I would recommend to open axis liberty savings account if you can maintain 25000 balance monthly or if you can spend 25000 at merchants in one month. You will get 750 voucher also if you spend 60000 at merchants in a financial quarter. Otherwise open hdfc savings account.

And one thing I want to say never open accounts in psu banks especially for online payments because too much transaction failures happen in these banks. I have faced many issues with SBI always server down. One time my friend had eaten paani Puri and paid with SBI account. Because he only has mobile at that time and payment got stuck and he sitted for 1 hour at his shop.😆

Can be opened from your home only,no need for branch visits
You wouldn't be playing for debit card amc charges
App is good enough without any ads
You can set pinless transactions upto 2k iirc, so no hassle of entering upi pin for small transactions

which DC is given for slice ?

I would recommend opening slice wallet account

+1 for Slice wallet UPI. Even without wallet Slice UPI can be used with any bank. Slice is already merged with North East SFB. So technically, it is a bank now.

For regular banks, I'd choose any bank with UPI Lite to reduce the failure rate.

But Paytm, Gpay kholke bhi scan and UPI pin dalna hai and BHIM kholke bhi same, since they are not tech friendly, only going to use scan and pay right?

Dono mein bottom mein middle placed hai...with same symbol 🙂



Alternative ways:
Either you can wait, like the way you waited till now, G-pay is working on it.

Or else, open a bank A/c, set txnal limit & register on Paytm/G-pay as per their preference.

My parents already use UPI with bank account, I was hoping to make it safer with UPI circle.
We did have an incident where my father sent 10k to the wrong person.
They didnt like BHIM when I showed it to my parents, so its just personal preference.
I need to test if UPI circle fits our use, and then convince them to use it

Then what is the reason for showing interest in wallet and SAs?

Was it P2P txn or P2M?
If it was P2P then, now onwards you carry out their P2P txn. Let them only do P2M txn, through scan and pay.

Or else invest some time teaching them all the aspects. And see how it goes.

Did you try to convince them? If you are hoping to make it safer with UPI circle, then right you have only one choice to convince them, very soon same feature will gonna come on G-pay and other TPAPs.

Convincing parent is not a big deal, especially when we put reasonable arguments, negative and positive impacts, unless parents are not narrow minded and unconceited.

They charge 300 rs for physical dc

I have only experienced this once on a mother dairy booth in delhi, other than that i have never faced acceptance issue in last 6 months of using slice

Btw how can someone turn off transactions for wallet based UPIs ? I have a paytm merchant account but didn't find a toggle to turn off this particular payment option

Is it implemented fully?

UPI circle is only implemented in BHIM app and has major issues. Not at all suitable for aged persons who are not tech savvy.
I would suggest opening acct separately for each parent with Jio Payment bank/AU Digital acct/NSDL Jiffy and configure UPI for them.
You can also consider Slice UPI as prepaid wallet option. For not so tedch savvy person, the Slice UPI UI is one of the simplest.
