Suggestion for Savings Account

Hi,

I've held on to my SBI Savings Account for so long, opened in remote village, so MAB requirement is there I think. But anyways, it tends to be problematic when I need to visit branch for money deposits etc. Last visit was more than 2 hours just to get money deposited! But hopefully you get the idea where my rantings are going.

I need to open an savings account in some other bank, so I'm not always stuck for hours for such quick tasks. It doesn't have to zero balance. I checked online, HDFC and ICICI seems to be closest, they're more or less at same proximity from my house.

So what should I go? HDFC or ICICI?

My requirements are basically —
1. Occasional offline transactions such as money deposits/withdrawal.
2. Better branch experience
3. In long run I might also want to take credit card in picture, I don't hold any CC from ICICI/HDFC, haven't tried HDFC, ICICI have rejected me twice/thrice.
4. If possible, good discount/cash back from debit card, I have heard from HDFC can get some discount while paying credit card bills.

P.S. I also have a Kotak 811 savings account but unfortunately its branches are faraway.

BTW guys do I need to do anything else now? Deposited 25k into the account, and generated NetBanking password etc. Hopefully I'll get the platinum debit card automatically or will need to apply it?

I think once bank assigns you debit card, you can check its some digits under Cards->debit card-> debit card status section in HDFC netbanking. if card number starts with 4160 then its Platinum debit card.

Last I had checked through NetBanking and yes my account did have a Debit Card, which started with 4160. Just want to know if I can use it before the welcome kit arrives, but probably not.

I was using it for credit card only. I too yesterday night able to add debit card there 🙂
Great. Wish I could see the card details right away, so that I could use it to get UPI working, also login in HDFC mobile banking app and pay some CC bills too. I haven't heard of anything from there end regarding the welcome kit. I did receive an intimation email containing details about the account number, branch, variant etc. Also the branch have been changed to my local one, so I guess using UPI should be okay. Also I read somewhere UPI I might not require debit card; using aadhar could work.

BTW guys couldn't get UPI working, it asked for last 6 digits of debit card and I still have no update from HDFC Bank regarding welcome kit or physical debit card. Any suggestion as to what can I do?

So guys, I received my welcome kit along with Debit Card, now how do I set up PIN?? I did receive an OTP for setting PIN in HDFC Bank ATMs. No UPI/NetBanking without Debit Card PIN
You would have received a leaflet for activating the Debit card and setting up the pin through phone banking.

Just call up the phone banking number. Choose the option to set the pin. You would receive a OTP to verify and set the pin.

I ended up setting PIN through ATM this morning, interestingly I mistakenly entered different PIN while confirming the intended PIN, and for some reason it allowed me to have that incorrect PIN instead of throwing an error that two entered PIN doesn't match, very weird!

That's pretty syrange 😯

Once you have your net banking setup, you can change your ATM pin any time online.
