Tata Star SBI Credit Card..Lowest Limit Given (72k)

TF Select
I had visited Tata Star supermarket at gachibowli, Hyderabad 10 days back. Moment i entered then a Sbi agent pounced on me and forced me to apply for Tata Sbi card. Sincle Sbi was the only card missing in my stable then I decided to give it a shot. I hold Axis magnus, Idfc wealth and mayura with 15L limits. I have cibil score of 785 with perfect record since 20 years. Sbi made 2 cibil hits and 1 Experian hit too!!! Also.... Central kyc!!!!!

Now comes the best part! My card was approved and I was alloted a premium card with annual charges of 2999+gst. Got my card after few days and when I opened the courier then I found the limit to be miserly 72k!!! Wtf!!! My brain was knocked off for a moment and my entire family laughed for a day! I tried calling cc but always ended up facing a wall through ivr! Finally I mailed them to cancel my card and i am waiting for their reply! I decided never to apply for sbi card again! I request everyone to avoid sbi totally. Worst bank and worst cc.

Update: Sbi people called me and argued that I had accepted the limit before approval!!! I asked where??? There was a mention that the limit would be between 40k to 30L. So I was expecting atleast midway mark! I had to cut their argument and flatly told them to cancel. After I got their cancellation noc then I breathed a sigh of relief! After all battle won for nothing! 🤦‍♂️

Hdfc is at a different level when it comes to hard enquiries. They did 3 enquiries for a preapproved cc. And 2 enquiries for opening current account.
why just to blame HDFC here? the person must have applied 32 times.

There are experts on forum who helped recent graduates and even students to get HDFC as pre approved by pointing to dos, if one would can follow that path these 32 and other enquiry issues shall go away.

Yes. Axis/ICICI are good. But HDFC is bad. They don't let us apply for the card of our choice in online mode. Instead they recommend us using there algorithm.
I didn't mean it like that.
I meant it's easier to find a cc as per your income/expense pattern.

E.g. hdfc has tiered offering

Freedom<mb+<millenia <rg~dcp <dcb<infinnia.

As one traverses through the site he would know exactly which one to pick.

Hdfc does this regularly. Even when you don't apply for anything they'll do a hard enquiry. (Like they did it with me.) I know many people who have got 15-20 enquiry for single hdfc application. They go on doing enquiries for months after the application, even after they reject your application.

Too many co branded cards and all are utter waste. Many are of similar pricing 2999+GST, All resemble SBI Prime card for me.

Axis is also little bit cluttered, but HDFC and ICICI are best in my view.
True but axis has filters based on fee, spend category (shopping/dining/travel/fuel) and cc nw(rupay/mc/visa) which is really useful for new users.
IMHO axis has segmented the cc market best. If they hadn't been that aggressive during covid, they could have built a sustainable business. Hdfc has different strategy; they want to design allaround cc.( millenia, rg,dcb, infinia etc )

Yes you can go for rbio but there is a big delay in response. Let's say you want a new hl now, after a bank sees you have got a dozen enquiry in a month, they'll be apprehensive. Many issuers 1st check recent enquiries. They dont check who has done so many enquiries or why your application was rejected. Once they decline your score will decrease further.
At the end you don't have anywhere else to go but hdfc, which was hdfc goal behind all this.

Sir,
Pl clear one confusion, in this case applying via agent or directly through SBI cards on SBI - would have been a difference in approval, especially Limit of the paid card or not ?
No all methods are same. You will get tons of calls to check if you are related to Mallaya! I tried all methods and nothing worked! Maybe it's because I love kingfisher beer! 🤣

Sorry to say this, but after reading this thread, I found that you preferred premium ness (to be called elite) over its actual utility. Being a regular visitor of STAR Bazaar and after exploring all Tata- SBI card options years ago, I think it a better choice to apply for their 499/-+GST card (easily convertible to LTF).

If it is for a SBI Card alone, then I am not sure whether you know it or not. But the truth is... Tata Cards are usually not eligible for SBI Card offers (on Amazon, Flipkart, etc.).

I know their application process is very bad. Most of us have experienced this, but that alone is definitely not the reason behind the closure.

Some TF members happily took the 20K cashback card despite holding M4B, Infinia (Metal), etc., because they find value in it. If you did not find value in it, then why did you apply for this in the first place? Very few co-branded cards (in India) offer high credit limits to show off. So, if you had higher credit limit expectations, then again, your choice of card was wrong.

72,000 is not an insufficient limit. It's just our ego that raises our expectations. The 15L limit offered by other banks has pampered your ego. Calm down. It's India, not the US or Europe.

Do you really believe that I applied 32 times ?

I am not a newbee.... I was holding cards since 1985. Probably, you were not born then. I held n surrendered 37 cards till now n hold 16 cards as of now.

I applied once to HDFC - supposed to be pre-approved in 2023. Those idiots approved, issued n couriered thir card and blocked it - all on the same day.

Those jokers did 32 hard hits - whenever I sent an email or spoke to them. So, had to escalate it to RBIO.

I didn't pin pointed at anyone. Neither my intention was to belittle nor to offend. Given sir you are the master of trade how could you of all folks allowed them multiple enquiries for 1 application and let them get away.

I hope they suppressed the unnecessary enquiries post RBI intervention

First our govt need to fix guidelines to these banks. They should inform us the limit they could provide us and then take approvals from customers. Some banks follow this but nationalized banks are silent crooks till the damage is done! We cannot complain to anyone.

I feel even though HDFC has some stringent norms or being rude to customers, they have created better sustainable CC base overall.

That is for preapproved offers. Issuers can't assign cl before hard enquiry as they don't have enough info to check your risk.

Though I also support giving option to lock cibil like locking adhar. I had even suggested this to few officials.

Absolutely. Hdfc and icici offering is sustainable.
Only infinias return isn't sustainable. But hdfc has found a loop hole. They are able to extract all cost of infinia holders from all those who want to infinia.

A person grows up, gets married and has kids. When all these factors come up in life then there is a necessity to own a credit card and more limit is expected when expenditure shoots up. It's a battle for every thing to survive. Expecting higher limits is not pampering but to fulfill our needs! 20yrs back my first credit limit was 80k and today it grew to max 20L. I travel atleast 3 times abroad with my family and we spend accoring to my earnings. So there is nothing wrong in me expecting higher limit! While applying the sbi agent swore that i would get good limit and so i agreed. Hope you understood.

Agreed 💯, but, Post Cibil or anything, once they are offering Limit...
It can be included in process, take customer's final consent on SMS/Email or both to go ahead with offered limit.
