Thai Airways: Trick to book Award flights from Indian airports as source

A
Surcharge is low but You require double the amount of miles in United.
27.5k Directly on Thai Airways gets you business class. But its economy in United.

Direct redemption from the airlines always costs fewer airmiles. On pretty much any airlines you check, Vistara, Thai, Singapore etc.
Ah just realized that it was business class in the Thai Airlines search. Nice trick!

At this point, I realise that your views and opinions are very different to that of mine, so it's best we leave it at this. 🙂

Yes. People have different views on where and how to spend their money and that's absolutely fine. But that's kind of off topic.

More to the topic - TG redemption offers terrible value and people should avoid it unless they can't pay or want to save on cash fares.

Yeah.
39k revenue
9k tax
27.5k miles.
30 / 27.5 = 1.1

To continue to pointlessly quibble... most cash return BLR - BKK J fares 2-3 months out on AI, TG, UL etc. are under 50k.

I would assume you're calculating one way fares which isn't the best way to calculate miles returns because there are often scenarios where one way fares are more expensive than return fares whereas miles required are constant.

That probably works for people who plan the trip 2-3 months prior. I generally plan 2-3 weeks before and book. At that time flight prices are generally high.
I book hotels on the go during the trip as my itinerary is never fixed.
I agree other airlines (Eg. Krisflyer) gives 2.5+ per mile for Business.

For me 1 ER = 1 Re is a pretty good value for any redemption.

I would rather earn and burn than wait. We never know when the devaluation happens.
