Urgent: Canara Bank ATM Withdrawal Issue – No Refund Yet!

Hello TechnoFino Community,

I need advice regarding an ATM withdrawal issue with Canara Bank. On 9th February 2025, I attempted to withdraw ₹500 from an SBI ATM at IIT Ropar Campus. Unfortunately, the money was debited from my account, but the cash was not dispensed.

I waited for one whole day, but no automatic reversal happened, so I raised a complaint with Canara Bank on 10th February 2025. Now, it has been 5 working days, but my complaint is still unresolved. My home branch is in Ghaziabad.

I would like to know:

  1. What is the typical resolution timeline for such cases?
  2. What should be my next steps if the bank does not resolve my issue soon?
  3. Should I escalate the matter to the Banking Ombudsman or RBI CMS Portal?
  4. Since RBI requires a written complaint document, how can I obtain one from the bank?
  5. I have preserved the ATM slip.
Has anyone else faced a similar issue? Please share your experiences and suggestions on how to proceed further.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance!

Just chill bro let them delay. You will be eligible for compensation.
  1. Should I escalate the matter to the Banking Ombudsman or RBI CMS Portal?
Not now. Just wait and watch.
  1. Since RBI requires a written complaint document, how can I obtain one from the bank?
You have already mentioned that you made complaint on 10th feb. That's enough. What was the mode of making complaint? Do you have compliant/ticket ID?
  1. I have preserved the ATM slip.
Great

Just chill bro, it's just ₹500. The more they delay, the more compensation you're entitled for.

Their time lapse on 14th only. 15,16,17: ₹300 already got accumulated...

I made the complaint through Customer Care Call centre and I have a complaint no.
Great then, take a chill pill and relax. Wait and watch how long they take to credit.

As soon as your money get reversed/credited. Then after that make an another complaint asking compensation, I have already shown you calculation and if they fail to credit the compensation or deny your complaint then you need to make a complaint with RBI BO. Keep us updated, will let you know what to do & how to do if needed and possible.

Thanks bro for you help.
I will keep you updated.

Ok bro.

The compensation I am talking is about the delay beyond T+5 days for reversing the txn.

In other words, it's for failure to credit ₹500 into your A/c within T+5 days, because your A/c got debited but cash was not dispensed.

Mark post #2 as the best answer if I was able to answer all of your queries satisfactorily.

I wanted to share an update on my ATM withdrawal issue. On 26th February, I emailed hocss1@canarabank.com regarding my complaint. Then, on 28th February, I received a call from the branch manager confirming that they had received my complaint and would work on it. When he initially requested that I come to the branch to submit a hard copy of the complaint, I explained that I don’t have time and I had already submitted the complaint via customer care. He mentioned that he would try an alternative solution instead.

I’m pleased to report that on 04th March, I received my ₹500 refund along with a compensation of ₹1800.

A big thank you to Aniket for the useful info and guidance!

Welcome!

Having said that, you literally made me to feel I shouldn't have commented. Lastly, I had stopped commenting and marked for future as well. Even if it seems rude, it's harsh truth.

Even though I have addressed all your queries & two additional comments
properly and asked to wait patiently as it's mere 500, also told you will be entitled for more compensation if they delay more.

But you didn't stop and become impatient and bombarded with the repetitive questions.

I sincerely apologize for the repeated inquiries. As a student attending a hackathon at IIT Ropad and facing my first such incident, I was anxious about a potential fraud. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
