Vietnam - Forex & Trip help

People who been to Vietnam, please share your trip itinerary. I'm planning to travel in the month of Jan.

I had been to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.
For forex, I used IDFC select credit card to withdraw money from ATM because forex charges in getting currency in India were high.
I also took USD which I converted at hotel

No cash withdrawal doesn't mean zero forex too 🤡

if one is aware of wealth cc ... It's understood what I meant is interest free cash withdrawal...😐😐

Also i got comparable rate to forex here. I got initial 20k thb here, but got 20k twice from ATM there and it was almost same even aft few charges...

Well I bought usd from local shops that exchange currency in india by giving them air ticket and e visa
The hotel in Hanoi, in old quarters,, were giving better rate so exchanged with them
ATM has limit of around 2000K to 5000k depending upon the bank. ATM at Citi Bank was having higher limit.
Charges are not much in Hanoi, though I don't remember it. I will be going to hanoi in June, this time will keep track of it

In Bangkok, the ATM withdrawal charges were 220THB - mostly this is standard across, and use only recognized bank ATMs.

I will be going to Vietnam and Malaysia in June.

I have Fi Money Debit card for ATM withdrawals and RBL world safari, Scapia credit cards for spending. All these offer zero forex markup fee. I also have OneCard, IDFC first wealth CC with less forex markup fee.

Although Fi Money worked flawlessly during my Bali Trip last year, still I want to have a backup card for ATM withdrawals.

I also have a SBI JCB Rupay debit card but being Rupay, I am not counting on that.

Please suggest which card/account should I get? How is IDFC Wow FD CC?

I don't want to pay 500 per withdrawal to Niyo or similar.

Not sure about Vietnam, but I've been to Malaysia and my SBI JCB DC worked in ATMs perfectly fine. I used Maybank ATMs, all my cash withdrawals were completely free and also I found the exchange rate on JCB to be the best. For cash withdrawals, I didn't have to take out my other cards even once. For POS payments, however, I had failures with JCB sometimes and had to use Visa in such cases.

Also, when outside India, it is not a Rupay card anymore. It's a JCB card, so you need not worry as JCB has good presence in South East Asia.

I travelled to Vietnam in Nov 2024. My experience is , in Vietnam, you need cash. Also most shops doent accept card. So I exchanged the reserve USD I bought along in the trip. I tried using my Indie megastar and RBL Singature plus DC and both got charged ATM fee.
So always have 500 or 1000 usd as reserve/backup.
