Visit nearest branch. You can always close Bank account without closing credit card. HDFC's savings account products and debit cards are good. So I would rather recommend you to get it converted to Savings max. Do your research and make a decision.

Goto any semi-urban branch (search in RBI MOF portal) & place a conversion request along with 1L FD. You can get a Zero Bal Savings Max account easily. You can do the same thing in Urban branches too, in this case, you have to create 1.5L FD.
