Whose responsibility is it if the auto-debit fails?

Pankhuri

TF Ace
My first SBI credit card has auto-debit facility. I usually keep more than the statement bill amount in that account, as I use it as my main small UPI transactions too. My due date was yesterday and as usual I had more than the statement amount in the account. But strangely there was no pull from SBI's side. I never got any SMS that amount would be debited too. Early morning I checked my bank balance and there was no debit. So I paid the required amount.

My questions

1) Will it come up as non-payment in the cibil report?

2) Can I do something to make it not appear as non-payment on cibil report? I have all the documents which show that bank balance was more than the required.

3) Is it a possibility that auto-debit facility is closed on my account? I got a 2nd SBI card last month and iirc I opted out of auto-debit facility on that card. Could it be that I have been opted out of it for the previous card too? I usually receive SMS about the amount that would be debited on due date 2-3 days before the due date, this month, I got nothing.

Something like this happened with me as well, except I didn't have full amount maintained in my SBI Savings Account, and I see other charges though lol

The reason for the charges is due to ACH mandate failure (2% of outstanding or Rs.500 + GST), it's not related to delayed payment to credit card.

But I had availed EMI on 19th, and 21st is when my bill was generated, and I was told by customer care that I only need to pay minimum due for this statement, from next statement the proper EMI would start. So auto-debit shouldn't have jumped in and tried to debit that huge amount from my bank account which I obviously didn't have, if I had that much money, I wouldn't rely on the EMI in the first place 🙁

If you did not opt for Auto Debit, then Payment of minimum amount due would be sufficient if there is only One txn in the Statement and that One txn is Converted into EMI.

Since Bill is generated with full Due Amount, Auto Debit hit your Bank Account with the the Statement Due.

When Auto Debit is Active
You should avoid EMI txns when Statement date is near
Or
A manual Payment after Statement is generated

In both cases Auto Debit will hit your Bank Account.

No. Since You made the Payment on next day after Due date

It may be possible.
In case of Auto Debit Merchant always send SMS Communication to maintain sufficient Amount, XXXX Amount will be debited on XXXX Date.

Check with SBI and SBI card if NACH is still Active

Sorry I forgot to update. I called customer care that very day and they ensured me that auto-debit facility is on with my credit card. I also checked auto debit on my newer card and they told there is no auto debit on that card.

What actually happened - I made a payment on 19th which failed. On 20th statement was generated. Payment was refunded on 21st. Auto-debit didn't take this into account and tried to pull 100% of statement. Account balance was lower than that. So it didn't get any money. I paid next day.

I am willing to escalate to get defaukt charges removed. Already raised complaint with SBI. Let's see how it goes. SBI offers 1 reversal of payment dishonour charges per year.

Thanks for the update, that looks like my dishonor charges might be reversed too, I called up them today as well and they told me within one month I should get it reversed. Also, what about the SBI Savings Account? Would it charge some penalty due to low funds?

Mine is old zero mab account. So no charges in my case.

Also since I didn't get any sms from them too, I will try to put the blame on them as much as possible.

Okay mine is zero MAB account it seems, I only had 200 rupees while 36,000 rupees were supposed to get deducted, let's see if they charge anything, but maybe they will charge once I add more money to the account

When Auto Debit is on , You should avoid mannual Payments.

I have seen Many people who ultimately pay dishonour charges to both Bank and Card issuer just because they did Mannual Payment.

This is applicable for Loan EMI too.
Twitter is full of such cases.

Loan EMI Due date is 3rd and and people Pay EMI on 2nd or 3rd via Third Party Apps.

When Auto debit hit the Account, Bank charge dishonour Charges and Loan Provider too charge Dishonour Charges and People starts Badmouthing on social Media Paltforms about both Bank and Loan Provider, when they are not at fault.

If only I had known this sooner or when I was actually signing up for a SBI Credit Card, but anyways, did messed up this time, I wanna disable auto-debit feature, as soon as possible, and seems like I need to send them a form fully filled to do that.

that depend on your AMB on that account, keep more than AMB required cause it bank calculate AMB on each day.

My bad, I didn't mean the AMB charges, I meant what if the mandate fails due to insufficient balance, like if I 36k due, and SBI Card tries to hit my SBI Savings Account and it doesn't have sufficient balance, then apart from SBI Card charging some penalty, would SBI Account also charge some penalty?

You can Cancel the NACH from your Savings Bank ends too if Your Bank Allows it.

Otherwise Merchant is the one who need to cancel the NACH

In SBI's case, making a payment 5 days before the due date is fine. Auto-debit takes such payments into account. Same goes for refunds. If the refund is credited 5 days before the due date, it is taken into account. Have had this happen in the past too. For some reason auto debit didn't take this refund into account.

Every Bank Charge Dishonour fee.
Check SOC of SBI.

For real examples Check twitter Handle of Kotak and Bajaj Finance.

When you fund your Account and keep the balance for a day or few days,
Bank will deduct Dishonour Charges as many times as SBI hit the Auto Debit to claim the Amount.

There is a Cut off date in Case of Loan EMIs, after that Cut off date even if you clear the EMI of Next Month well in Advance via Third Party Apps, Auto debit would hit 100%

In case of Credit Cards, How cut off date works I do not have any idea since I never setup NACH for Credit Card Repayments
