Hello Technofino members,

I recently had an incredible experience redeeming my JAL Miles, and I wanted to share the details with you all:

International Travel:
I redeemed 70,000 miles for a round-trip ticket from Cochin (COK) to São Paulo (GRU) via Qatar Airways.
The actual cash price of this ticket was approximately ₹2,09,000 (it's the minimum).
For the redemption, I paid ₹9,100 towards taxes and fees.

Domestic Travel within Brazil:
I redeemed 23,000 JAL miles for a three-segment domestic trip with LATAM airlines as single PNR ticket:

São Paulo → Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro → Manaus

Manaus → São Paulo

The actual cash price for these flights was around ₹30,000.
For this redemption, I paid ₹1,700 as taxes and fees.

Summary:

Total miles redeemed: 93,000 miles

Total actual ticket cost: ₹2,39,000 (₹2,09,000 + ₹30,000)

Total taxes paid: ₹10,800 (₹9,100 + ₹1,700)

Net benefit from miles: ₹2,39,000 − ₹10,800 = ₹2,28,200

Miles Value Calculation:

Rupee value per mile = 2,28,200 ÷ 93,000 = approximately ₹2.45 per mile

---

Final Thoughts:
I'm extremely satisfied with this redemption, getting a superb value of around ₹2.45 per mile!
International redemptions usually offer the best value, and this trip with Qatar Airways was an absolute delight.
This experience proves that with smart planning, miles can truly take you a long way—literally!

Hope this encourages others to maximize the value of their AirMiles too.

Happy traveling!

Economy or Business ?

Edit: Just realized it is round-trip. Isn't that 85000 rountrip from Cochi for Y class?
Oops, sorry, i missed that point. It was economy only.
But where did you get the estimation of 85K miles ? Are you checking with qatar avios ?

You used 93000 jal miles. But how much axis edge points you used to get these points ?

Is it normal magnus 5:4 or burgundy 5:2 ?

YOu exchange all the edge reward points to jal miles all at once, or is there any per day or per month limit ?

It's 5:4 ratio. There is no daily restriction or something like that. You can transfer all at once.

Yes, qatar avios.

I flew Business last yr on same route from DEL. I paid 80K or 90K can't remember. It is a terribly long flight.
But from my experience, booking qatar airways flights directly with avios is not worth as using JAL miles to book qatar airways flights.

My mistake earlier, normal magnus is 5:2 and burgandy is 5:4.

I have normal magnus with 2L+ points. I want to use them. So I am interested to know how exactly you did this.

I've been searching youtube and forums tfor someone to explain how to book these alliance flights. I'm well aware on how the miles work for individual airlines (like avios for Qatar airways, or krisflyer for singapore airlines) but always found it confusing on how to use JAL miles to book for qatar airways or vice versa and similar booking for other alliances, like star alliance.
Would you mind to explain how you did this booking or redirect me to a link or post which explains this? Thanks in advance mate 🙂

With normal magnus, u could transfer 1L points in a year, which converts to 40K miles
