Hi All,

I am planning to book international hotels via agoda using my Axis Magnus Burgundy card.
I wanted to do understand whether I will have pay forex fee, DCC charges etc on top of the hotel booking amount

If so, can someone help me with the calculation of these extra charges when booking hotels worth 1Lac.

Should I pay in INR or EUROs via agoda ? I am confused when it comes to DCC charges

Thanks

If you are paying in foreign currency (Euro or Dollar etc) then forex charges apply.
When merchant is converting foreign currency to indian rupees and you pay in INR then DCC applies.

If Agoda is already showing INR price then no DCC charges. Check your credit card forex charges, accordingly make the decision

Easy bro, try doing transaction with international transactions off, if it goes through then no forex charges, else turn on international transactions on and there will be forex charges

I always pay in the currency of the hotel. You’ll get mastercard / visa conversion rate for today + 2% forex conversion on card. Always ends up lower than paying in INR.
And yes, DCC will be charges for Agoda if you pay in INR.

very timely question.
I just trialed this things this month to book for my Nov Japan trip via Agoda.
Charges were showing in INR only.
Used axis atlas cc and booked a hotel in Tokyo. Paid in INR only. Got charged DCC and GST.
Hotel charge was 656.13 INR. Later DCC+GST was charged.
Obviously I cancelled the booking and everything got refunded as well.
So answer to your query is, you will get charge DCC and not forex for booking via international hotel thru agoda.

Was your international transactions on while payment?

I just specifically tested this for Japan, and the prices are almost matching as per Google's conversion rate. see for yourself.
So add the Forex charges and the JPY version and you will be paying higher than the INR version.
Happy to be corrected incase I'm missing something.
