SBI Cashback Card - Eligible Cashback Not Credited After Refund

Hey everyone, I’m stuck with an SBI Cashback Card issue and wanted to check if anyone’s faced something similar.On Sep 17, I made a big Amazon purchase (₹72k) with my SBI Cashback Card, but the order got cancelled and refunded (got the refund email on Sep 20). I had to re-pay the same amount again on Sep 18 for the order. I thought I’d get 5% cashback for this spend, but SBI gave me only ₹1,500 when I should have got ₹4,700.

Their customer care says I hit the ₹5K monthly cashback cap, so they won’t give cashback on the fresh transaction—even though the first one was refunded before the statement date. I’ve tried escalating with proof (Amazon refund mail & my statement), but still no luck.

Has anyone managed to get their cashback after raising a complaint? Or am I just stuck with this? Any tips or similar experiences would or similar experiences would help!

It is an age old problem of SBI cashback card. The worst part is that if u purchase an item online worth Rs 1 lakh on the 1st day of ur statement and suppose due to any reason that product is cancelled/returned then for the rest of the month u wont get any cashback( because u have hit Rs 5k CB limit) even though u have technically not used any limit at all. Havent faced this issue. Maybe others here can help better.

When did they reverse the initial 5k cashback that you have earned? Is it before the statement generation? Generally, what i noticed is they reverse the cashback when the reverse/ refund of the transaction is posted to the card account

It was reversed instead they didn't provide the cashback

I had to make the payment i.e 72k again, which pushed my total cashback past ₹5,000. Later, the refund for the first transaction was credited within the same billing statement.

Where I was supposed to recevie 4700 cashback i recevied only 1400

I had a similar situation where my transaction did not fail but I had to cancel it and redo the transaction. I got the cb as expected because I canceled the transaction almost immediately so the merchant didn't grab the payment. Sbi usually posts cb only after the transaction is settled. So, my cancelled transaction was not settled and my other transaction got settled and I got the correct cb.

I'm unsure if your situation was similar to mine
 
Hdfc tata neu does the same. I bought some gold it got cancelled ordered again and got nil neu coins as I had breached the limit in first order.

So both SBI/HDFC do this 🙁

Yeah it was completely the opposite in my case. Amazon initially showed the order as successful, but the next morning I received an email asking me to update the payment. When I checked they mentioned that due to technical issues they couldn't process the payment even though the transaction when they have already debited the amount from the card.

It's really weird we are just using our card if something goes wrong at the merchant end why do we need loose our cashback
