Fraudulent Credit Card Transaction - Entire Amount Withdrawn by Fraudster, Bank and Police Not Helping – Need Advice

TF Buzz
Hi all,

Looking for some advice based on a recent experience with a fraudulent credit card transaction. I was purchasing a product on a website and the payment page showed just 5 rupees as the amount. However, after entering my OTP, I found that about 10K rupees was debited from my card.

I immediately reported it to my bank, submitted all documents, and even raised a complaint with the cyber police. Unfortunately, the police were not helpful in filing an FIR. I was told by the cyber police that for online financial frauds with an amount less than 1 lakh rupees, FIRs are usually not filed, and they also mentioned that the fraudster withdrew the full amount from their account almost immediately after the transaction.

Both the bank and authorities say there is little they can do, and I am now left with no support and the liability for this loss. If anyone in the community has faced something similar or has suggestions or contacts that could help, I would really appreciate your advice.

Thanks for your help.

FORGET !!

Even if amount was more than ₹1L, still police or bank's won't do anything. Until you have personal connection, either in police or bank, nothing can be done.

That's it, that's the truth.

Currently, email bank and raise dispute for the trxn under "goods/service not delivered" remark. They might be able to hold the amount.

Sorry for the loss but unfortunately nothing will happen unless ur post goes viral on social media or u know someone in police department

Police is the most corrupt department in india...they dont file FIR for heinous crimes like r*pe, kidnapping and m**der cases & ur case is nothing in front of these cases

At best, apply chargeback on credit card transaction

Thank you for your replies..I had put the chargeback and informed bank within one hour but of no use they said since you entered the otp you are liable not the bank

yes it was sbi credit card...no they say credit card transactions are done instantly it just shows us that it is under process..i raised chargeback multiple times they keep on closing request and conclude i will only have to bear the loss

In that case card protaction plan work or not ? IF this happen with CC
I think card protection plan works only if there is no negligence from the customer side. Here I had only entered the OTP, so it's clearly a negligence from the customer end, and that's the reason they are asking me to pay the whole amount. I got this on this forum just to see if there is any viable suggestion or advice from anyone in the community. If anything can help.

Site seems to be malicious.
Chargeback should be the way to go.

chargeback can be applied within 90 days...There is a proper form for the same...Send email to sbi to share the chargeback form...On call, they can do any bakloli....Fill the form & send the scanned copy through email and also through speed post.

Thank you for sharing the website scamadvisor.com. It will be really helpful for future.
I already did file a chargeback by filling this form n mailing them, but the SBI credit card team have closed the dispute, and they said that I only have to be liable for the transaction.

I just opened this website on desktop and my antivirus blocked it by saying Malware/Scam.

You might have opened on Mobile which may not be having antivirus installed. Google Play also can't check for malicious website in browsers sometimes and alert.

Sorry for you loss but this money isn't coming back to you. OTP filled txns are your duty. Only when txn is not generated by you, bank can help by checking system. Actually Card Network and Bank keep log of OTP verified or not verified txns.

Second thing is for Rs.5 you can't even get a chocolate today, so believing a product for Rs.5 is your negligence. Own it and move on.

The only shopping sites in life I have visited and pushcased from was ebay.com with ebay guarantee in past. Used wallet virtual cards for Payments. RBI was not too strict those days.

Then snapdeal.com and later Flipkart and Amazon. Till now in 2-3 order faced issue which were below 2K and refunded by both companies.

Never bought 30K plus products online in my life from both these. Also never used mobile apps (not having any shopping app) and directly use website. Companies do give perks sometimes for using App which I let go.

one imp lesson....never ever shop from shady websites....if you cannot resist the temptation of low prices....always do cod transactions...these websites are so shady....the price they show on their websites is extremely low....once you add it to cart and go to payment page.....they add all sorts of charges....lol...they even add gst at payment page.......another similar website is deodap....

I don’t understand, why can’t the dispute be done under goods not delivered category
Fradulent websites are not covered under such things.

If someone makes a fake website and show some items at 50% off. Take order and money and close the website and throw away all digital presence items. Who will reach those. So it's not that easy and why will police and banks spend their resources and time?

Police can't spend their resources just for sake of someone's 5K/10K.

A common man thinks he just need to file FIR and police will waste all day roaming around cities or even outer states spending lakhs on petrol and Govt salary wasted.

That's why someone rightly said, Justice is for those who have money. People have to understand if belonging is too precious they need to shell out money. This is not corruption but no one will work for you without getting anything from you. Will you do a job for people and spend own money? Never.

People think the police which is 1 for 40000 people should sort out everything.

Being alert in life is your own duty.

No, this should go into a dispute/chargeback.

It's suprising how the merchant has a licence to use a credit card gateway. This is against VISA/Mastercard policies.

File a chargeback with your bank and also post and tag on social media

Brother have you tried connecting with nodal officer team for SBI cards? And chargeback can be raised for merchant's deficiency of goods / service, denial of refund or even no response from merchant !! I had done with onecard bob for an order on meesho and it was successful.. keep trying and if they keep closing reach out to banking ombudsman
