You can reject it and it would go back to HDFC office. You may face issues later if they ask you card number to process closure request. Technically according to RBI rules if you dont activate card within 30 days of issuance, you should not be charged any fees and no entry of that card should be made in Credit Report. That said banks have devious ways to get your card activated, they send links on SMS, E-Mail or if you click on the card in your Net Banking they activate the card. So be careful before clicking any link.

I highly suggest you accept the delivery and then raise a closure request with HDFC, in case you need card details you will have it, else it would turn into a mess.

You're right.

No entry will be made to CIBIL until it's activated.

Do you have salary relationship with HDFC? Then you can talk to your RM for upgrade, they will easily give you Millenia. Else, take the delivery but don't activate the card. Call the customer care and tell them your concern, mostly they won't do anything, after that you raise closure request, you may get call from retention team, they are the ones who can upgrade your card, they might ask salary slips or ITR as proofs for upgrade.

Moneyback is useless card unless you just want some credit card to get interest free credit period.

I have digisave youth account. Just maintaining minimum required balance. Don't know on what basis they gave me cc with 50k limit.

See that is the issue, it is not a regular account so, they can give you Milllenia. They handout these Moneyback or Freedom credit cards to anyone who applies to their credit card, that way they maintain their market share in credit cards, basically they don't reject anyone.

If you don't have salary account or didn't submit salary slips that match the card criteria it is very difficult to get the card you want.

What's the limit?
50k with joining and annual fee

Accept it, but do not activate it. According to RBI rule if a credit card is not activated within thirty days of receiving it it will be deactivated. But this closure generally wouldn't have a lasting negative impact on your credit score or future applications
So, you are saying that if we don't activate the card within the 30 days, the card will be closed and there are no repercussions on us. I am assuming this is true for all banks (even PSU banks).

Also, what if there are any joining fees? Would we have to pay that even if we don't activate the card?
