1% Cashback returns on HDFC Platinum Debit Card

My experience of getting 1% cashback on HDFC Platinum debit card.

Dec 23 - Opened Savings Max Account and got 'Visa Platinum Debit Card'. Started getting 1% cashback (upto Rs 750) on making payment of ICICI credit card through Bill Pay on HDFC platform. In around 6 months time it stopped automatically.

Nov 24 - Changed the account type to Speciale Gold and also converted to Classic Banking (on request). Placed order for new Platinum Debit Card with hope to get word Classic mentioned it. But again got the same variant 'Visa Platinum Debit Card'. Anyways, again started getting 1% cashback on payment of ICICI bank credit card through bill pay on HDFC platform. Only thing I did was delete the biller and re-register for auto-payment with the new debit card through Bill Pay on HDFC platform. Dont know if that was required to be done.

Not sure what has worked:
  1. New Account Type
  2. New Account type + New Debit Card
  3. New Account type + New Debit Card + Classic Banking
Has anyone experienced this before. Is it a technical glitch.

This is currently a working method irrespective of account type and age of Platinum debit card.
Suggested steps, as seen it as a working method for several people:

  1. Create new biller on mobile app. (Dont use Netbanking)
  2. While registering other bank CC Biller 'SmartPay Enabled' should be mentioned there.
  3. CC Bill generated should get registered in the 'Scheduled'. (an sms would also come mentioning word 'SmartPay').
  4. Let the payment happen on auto mode. (Another sms would come 2-3 days before auto payment, it would also have word 'SmartPay').
  5. Amount of bill generated and paid should match. During payment it would not ask for OTP/PIN.
  6. The merchant name showing in statement would be - DCSI-BBPSBILLPAY

Detailed steps on adding the other bank CC to HDFC Bill Pay.
  1. Register on HDFC mobile app by clicking 'add biller'.
  2. Select biller type 'Credit Card'.
  3. Enter Biller information - Select bank to which your credit card belongs to.
  4. Enter your mobile number and last 4 digits of the CC number. And give a name to the biller.
  5. At this point it would show 'Enable Smartpay'.
  6. In smartpay amount - select 'Entire Bill Amount'.
  7. In 'pay from' select your HDFC Platinum debit card. Enter Expiry date. Press continue.
  8. Skip the step of 'Would you like to make a payment while we add your biller?'
  9. Accept the T&C and press 'confirm'.
  10. Your registration would happen without OTP/PIN.
  11. An sms would come which have mention of 'HDFC SmartPay via Debit Card XXXX'

Have you auto-pay active with DC because HDFC has some cashback on auto-pay of bills through BILLPAY site. Don't know if CC payment included or not as never tried it.

So you were getting ₹750 cashback per month from last devaluation, when HDFC Billpay stopped working, and users migrated to Unipay, Setu, Airtel, etc app?
Yes. Getting upto 750. 1% of the amount.
My usage on ICICI Card has been quite low. Mostly on HDFC card.

Yes biller is on auto-pay. mode. Sometimes payment has gone automatically, sometimes I did the payment by pressing the button. Have got cashback in both ways.
The biller is tagged as 'SmartPay'

HDFC Millennia DC will also give you 2.5% upto Rs400 per month, if this trick will work and the biller is tagged as 'SmartPay'.
Remember this will not work all the time

Had been using this since long, most of the time it is coming as Rental merchant which is not eligible for the CB

So it's not a sure shot trick unlike Millennia DC

Jyada ke chakkar me mat bhago jitna mil raha hai utna lelo Millennia DC se🤣

How do u get to know that it's 1% only?
reward points are matching exactly 1% of the credit card bill paid. And reward points are posted within 2-3 days of credit card payments.
My other payments are negligible on Bill Pay. Not even Rs 10000 in last 2 months.
