5 credit cards challenge

If you could only have 5 credit cards with you and no more - which would be your 5 credit cards? Would be great if you could also mention the reasons. Of course these will be based on your personal usage, preferences, spends etc., but would be fun to know. Idea is to see if we can create a holistic portfolio of credit cards in a way that they cover all aspects of our spends and lifestyle, thus each card complementing the other 4. What are those 5 cards as of today (as the combination may keep changing with new cards coming up, devaluation in existing cards etc.).
I am so looking forward to hear from members here. Would especially be fun to hear from those who have numerous credit cards and to see how they manage to narrow it down to 5 😛 .

From my experience:

I have ordered food and it got delivered after 1.5 hrs. Pure cold food. Now they've started charging exorbitant prices for delivery as well.

Ordered grocery. Whole day passed but no sign of any communication. Complained to paytm but no response. After 2 days, they refunded the money by saying 'seller has increased the price'.

So its not a reliable platform until they have dedicated complaint centre and delivery partner which is not going to happen (atleast 2nd part). Better stick to Zomato, Swiggy, bigbasket etc.
Maybe our Rupay King @Abhishek012 can give us some insights as to why this is happening.

As he is generally interested in Rupay and Govt related initiatives, and also possess a great amount of knowledge in this field.

He can explain as to why these issues are happening, expected changes, future plans, etc.

Service is great. Have Axis Airtel & Flipkart cards rn. Problem arises when I'm doing transaction close to my credit limit. Then they simply cancel it continuously.

Even their customer care have no record of failed txns so they're unable to give reason for that. After LE, txn of same amount went smoothly.

Cashback comes timely. Whenever I had contacted their customer care, they're knowledgeable enough to solve my query. Atleast I have good experience from Axis services.
Axis will be happy today 🙂 some positive reviews

Looking at the responses on this thread till now, it seems that post Magnus, Infinia and DCB have gone down in their perceived value as well as aspirational level of card applicants. First the devaluations and then the Magnus hit.
I still feel that Infinia/DCB are very good cards if used efficiently.

We can still manage to extract nearly 8-10% without worrying about hitting the 1L milestone (which in some cases may result in overspending)

Also the default 3.3% return is like pure cash (unlike miles). This can directly be used to book revenue flights like indigo/spicejet and all others on smartbuy directly.

Eg. Vistara needs 7500 miles for Blr-Delhi route which if booked by money may most of the times cost 5k-6k. So many a times we end up getting less than 1Rs value for miles. Also no headache of award seat unavailability.

One more advantage is DCB/Infinia rewards you in multiples of 150. Eg if you spend 750 then these hdfc cards would give 25 points (5 per 150) whereas Magnus would just give you reward for 600 rs for 750 spent ie 28.8 miles(9.6 miles per 200 spent).

One more advantage I see is that even the bonus rewards are credited in no time (like buying from gyftr, Smartbuy).

I understand that Magnus has taken over everything by storm and it maybe the best card out there currently but Infinia/DCB can't be undermined for stress free spends. (Especially if one manage to get DCB ltf like I did 🙂 )

PS : I tried getting a magnus but got rejected as I had no cibil history but got DCB instead from my relationship with hdfc. So I maybe a bit biased 🙂

I am not a very high spender but preferring these:

Amex MRCC (LTF) - I use it to buy Amazon gift coupons to complete 4*1500 and utilize it for purchases from Amazon.
BoB Eterna (LTF) - Kept it for lounge accesses during official travels. It provides unlimited domestic lounge accesses.
Tata Neu Infinity (LTF) - For UPI. Just received it.
Axis Airtel (Paid) - For paying Airtel BB and utility bills to get 25% and 10% cashback respectively.
Axis Flipkart (LTF) - For shopping from Fkart. Using Grabdeal, cashback can be maximized to 5% + 5%.

Holding other cards like ICICI Amazon (LTF), Axis Select (LTF), IndusInd Legend (LTF), HDFC Regalia (LTF), Yes Bank First Preferred (LTF), etc. but not using them much.

Let me correct the sequence:

It was 5 credit card challenge> Swiggy One deal> Swiggy vs Zomato > ONDC vs Swiggy Zomato.

@abhishek0882 would be wondering that have I started this thread to know about CC portfolio or to get gyaan about food and startups ? 😛
I am okay with whatever adds value and entertainment to the community. Plus I get to learn more than what I bargained for 🤣

I guess you can go c2c route for Magnus with your DCB later. We should commend Axis if they don't devalue their card by then. XD

Yeah but last I heard they need 1 year old history for C2C and my DCB is hardly a month old. Most probably the party would be over by then and I would have missed the bus.

Your analysis makes a lot of sense. Many a times convenience and simplicity mean a lot more than just features. I was just saying from the number of people who mentioned Magnus in their 5 card portfolio compared to DCB/Infinia. I am sure many people have both, but to trim to 5, they had to leave out Infinia and DCB. Currently it seems that in practical terms, in HDFC cards, people are preferring Tata Neu Rupay and in premium segment they are going for Magnus.
