American Express (AmEx) Pauses All New Card Applications 🚨🚨

Seems like AmEx wants to pause and look back into what they've been doing.
They're pausing all new applications for the time being, probably for the next few months under the reason 'strategic business transformations'.

This does not affect current users but only the new applications.

They've been getting dragged for a decline in their quality of customer support, lack of new offers and the overall card value going down.
Do you think they will introspect all of it and come back even better and stronger?

Should I transfer my MR points to Marriott in case the 1:1 transfer ratio is changed? Asking because have a huge number of points.
Not urgent.
American Express points never expire and if they reduce the ratio, they will have to give 30 days advance notice.

Also, you can wait for a 30% bonus for transferring to Marriott, if it ever comes back

I wonder why no one thought of this.

May be Amex is moving to BBPS hence the downtime?

I mean they are clearly saying "integrate new platforms for our domestic Card issuing operations".

What's the "new platform" and "integration". Amex has said before BBPS is coming.

Issue for amex always has been that last 4 digits of the card usually is almost same for many.

So very high possibility BBPS is coming.

Why would this stop them from accepting new card applications?

it is not possible for them to move onto BBPS without changing every single card that is currently active. I do not expect them to pay crores of rupees to print and replace cards just so they are on a national bill pay system.

I'm sure they are not going to change their existing cards. I guess they have modified their systems to retain the old card number in 2020's only.
And just for one country's billing system, they would not want to change their way of working which works in other countries and worked for more than a century.

Yes, may be. But eventually they have to come with some solution to comply with.

This is not one another xyz country dear, It's Bharat 🇮🇳. Here, everyone have to comply as per the laws, regulations and most importantly as per the consumer demand 😉

To stay in the business, they will change entire system for us if required. 😆

But BBPS considers combination of registered phone number, last 4 digits and card issuer to process payment.

I have indusind amex card and it works on BBPS.

Even if the last 4 digits are same, phone number is also needed for BBPS, right? So, I don't know if if that'll hinder them from implementing BBPS.

Maybe coincidence - me and my cousin have same last 4 digits for our amazonpay icici card.

Me and my mom have same last 4 digit for my coral. And I have same last for digit for my coral and Platinum 😂 when bbps was implemented I had to call them to reissue platinum for this particular reason. So that I received a different last 4 digit otherwise it wasn't allowing me to repay.

A Small Bad News For Amex Users

It has recently been disclosed that American Express might be transitioning from Taj as their preferred hotel partner to Postcard Hotels. Marking a shift in their current offerings.
Taj to Postcard was expected when Taj vouchers were not being accepted and Postcard hotel membership was introduced. Anyways better we explore the good properties of Postcard, but they’re resorts type category.
