American Express (AmEx) Pauses All New Card Applications 🚨🚨

Seems like AmEx wants to pause and look back into what they've been doing.
They're pausing all new applications for the time being, probably for the next few months under the reason 'strategic business transformations'.



This does not affect current users but only the new applications.

They've been getting dragged for a decline in their quality of customer support, lack of new offers and the overall card value going down.
Do you think they will introspect all of it and come back even better and stronger?

there are ppl who live on amex referral points as their primary income source..now they'll call themselves unemployed and ask govt for umemployment allowance....after all if i'm unemployed govt should do something....

Got my card approved. Looks like they have resumed the CC applications.

Possible they might change to once a lifetime Signup/Referral bonus like a lot of US cards have done and even Axis did now, to combat users cancelling cards before year ends and again applying for new SUB/Referral bonus.

My personal wishlist still is that they patch all these referral/renewal bonus points and somehow match their charge card to what the US one offers (since almost same annual fee). For once, more transfer partners and 1:1 ratio, even if on Platinum Charge card would make it more attractive.

Right now even the Icici TB card has beaten it to some extent as a "lifestyle/travel card", Atlas still sits on top as a travel card.

PS: Forgot 0% Forex fee on US platinum charge card, right now its literally better for someone to get a US charge card and use it in India, instead of getting a indian one

I applied on 7th march as I read that they will be stopping new cc application . I had been rejected 3 times by Amex even tho i have a good CIBIL and told (13th march 2025) it got approved . Finally got the Amex before they stopped new applications.

That was a smart move, I had a notice up saying apply fast because we didn't know when the applications open again!

and is it true that they give lower initial limit cuz they have given me just 1 lakh limit . whereas my other cards are 3l plus , highest being amazon pay at 9 lakhs

Applied for plat travel for a friend using ky referral, been 20 days, it showed “no income documents required and you are conditionally approved” then went to his office for verification and now asking for income documents, lets see how it goes.

I also received the message " no income documents required" but later was informed by AMEX executive to upload the income documents on 2 occasions. I heard that it's better to upload income documents for quick sanctioning of card .

Though the new applications are paused, the upgrade path still works. I had emails from AMEX few months back, in which i had upgrade offer to AMEX Platinum travel which was valid until 31st December 2024. Used it to apply for the card yesterday and got approved today!

I got my Plat Travel approved yesterday.
