Any one has recommendation for an ubuntu laptop? Ubuntu need not be install on it. RAM 16 GB, 512 ssd, decent processor.

Most non windows laptop on amazon seems to have 8 GB RAM.

Ubuntu is based on linux, while windows is based NT kernal. If you techy and know how to run application and install does not make differ, but driver issue arise while playing game and watching video. Plus many application/software not avilable on ubantu. Day to day activites manage easily.

Buy an 8GB and upgrade to 16 yourself. Most 16G laptops come with a single 16G stick. To have dual channel support (in DDR4) you need two sticks. If you go with AMD CPU (and you should) not having dual channel severely hampers the performance.

If battery life is not much of a concern get a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming, great value for money in each segement (50k, 60k, 70k and 80k). Since it's gaming, you can do pretty much everyhing.

If battery life is essential, go with notebook (acer or lenovo). These will have an underclocked CPU and no GPU for longer battery life but cost around the same.

If you can spare the money for a thinkpad, well you won't have any complaints.

(Power efficiency or performance you choose)

DO NOT BUY ASUS, under any circumstance.

you can find some models in lenovo thinkpad with those specs and ubuntu

better to buy a good laptop with and use WSL, or else you can even use vm ware or virual box

Have been using linux for long. First Ubuntu I used was in 2006. Ubuntu 6.10. So, good experience with using, managing and troubleshooting. Had Ubuntu as primay machine for years for work as well as personal work. 🙂

May be I should try this. I come from time when we used to use grub for dual boot. Have not used windows for more than 10 years. So, kind of hesitant.
Windows sabotaging dual boot, when we start using linux based Os, it works fine for a while then, out of nowhere, we can’t login into ubuntu(matter of fact it won’t even takes to us to lockscreen page), it always shows some error & worst part is if we tired to boot windows(as linux os not working), it will get struck at blank screen loading sign, it won’t respond. It happened twice for me, so I’ve reinstall windows with a usb stick.
I used to dual boot windows along different linux distros, used to work fine till fag end versions of windows 10, then after windows 11, i’ve 2 os reinstalls in the span of 6 months.

Thanks. This helps. So, only ubuntu or WSL.

Check refurbished ThinkPad T480 / T14 or used Dell Latitude 5420 models available over amazon and Olx. Recently I got the dell one for cheap and soon will be replacing the windows 11 with Debian or Ubuntu.

got it!!, I used to have triple boot - windows, mac and linux is same PC (direct bootable, not using virtual machines)
hence, I suggest you to go with the same, as in 70k you will get a awesome laptop with good gpu (if you do gaming or editing), else you can get i7-14gen for around 60k
