Consider getting a Lenovo Gaming Series or ThinkPad Series laptop. Avoid 13th generation or older models, as you’ll want at least a 14th-generation processor. Unlike mobile phones, laptops aren’t something you can replace every year—you'll likely use it for at least 3-4 years. So, it’s better to go for the latest generation. In just 2-3 months, 15th-generation laptops are expected to hit the market. If you can wait, opting for the 15th generation would be a more future-proof choice.Budget : I can do 1L or 2L or more , it's fine.
My requirements :
Processor : anything above i5 13th gen that i currently have. No battery saver BS, I don't care for that. H intel processors or better. I don't prefer AMD as I have never worked with it before and I don't have the time/patience to test them as my work is everyday.
My main usage will be excel/pdf/word/Chrome(huge usage here)/VirtualBox(huge usage here too), whatsapp/telegram/calender/streaming. I'll be handling a business with this laptop and no I can't go for desktop as I want portability here as I have to work from home too and offc.
Ram : Has to be 32gb or more. if it's soldered, I'm okayish with it but extra slot would be great. Ofc DDR5 +
SSD : only SSD, I don't want HDD, my laptop usage is less about storage but I don't want HDD at all, just dedicated SSD of 512 will do or more it's fine.
Numpad : Most important, I won't accept any laptop without numpad. Can't compromise here.
Fingerprint : I want face ID or fingerprint (preferably not on power button, I hate that. May be dedicated fingerprint underneath the keyboard on right side for easy access and if not fingerprint, I'll settle with face authentication but I want some authentication.
Screen : OLED has spoiled me and that's the only thing I like abt my current ASUS S5504. My earlier laptops I used to keep brightness 100% as I love bright screen but this OLED laptop asus 5504 really is so damn bright that I have to keep the brightness to 80% not more and I want 120hz screen and atleast 600nits. I just can't go back to 60hz. I can compromise on OLED but not on 120hz. Screensize has to be atleast 15.6". I can't go lower than that and I don't like 18" screen but 15.6" or 16" can do. Hopefully with more than 1080p. I currently have 2.2k display on my laptop and I'm comfortable with that. 4k might seem a stretch but if it's acc to my use case, I'll go for it.
Ports : Need atleast 2 USB A ports and usb c but 2 USB A are important as I have to connect headset/mouse adapter. I don't want to work with usb a to c converters, it will create a mess for me. Don't care for HDMI/MICROSD/ etc ports.
Body : Hopefully aluminum or better, can't go back to plastic.
OS : Windows. I don't mind mac but I just can't change my whole environment for work, but if someone rents me a latest mac for 3-4 days to test 😛 to see if I can work with it acc to my usage then I don't mind going for mac 16 m3 pro 32gb which costs 2.9L.
Gaming : Here's the important part, I DON'T CARE FOR GAMING. THERE WILL BE ZERO GAMING ON MY LAPTOP. I have PS5 for that. But I do work, VM, Streaming, and huge chrome usage so if what I use my laptop for, a dedicated graphics card can help, then I don't mind going for a laptop with dedicated GPU (for chrome/VM etc) but as I said I will never ever game on my laptop(I am fixed on this).
Battery : if the laptop can give good battery, then why not but I don't want any compromise in performance so if u suggest a laptop which fits my needs but I have to compromise on battery backup, I don't mind. My laptop is 99% of the times plugged in anyways. But hopefully the laptop will have atleast 1 hour of back up 🤣
Wifi/bluetooth should be latest (wifi 6+).
Keyboard : Numpad and backlit is mandatory. If the backlit is rgb, even better but I'm fine with white only too.
Brand : I don't care but honestly I had the worst experience with this asus laptop so I might be a bit biased for Asus but if what u suggest is asus, I might settle for it. Ugh ASUS.
AI : I don't care for it, hence new intel line ultra 5 7 9 etc seems useless to me so ofc I don't care for co-pilot AI button.
Speakers : Very much preferably front or side facing speakers as down speakers are dogshit.
Fan/Heat vents : Need them side/front(upwards) or from the bottom screen hinge. Not bottom as 50% of the times I use my laptop from my bed.
Touch : I don't care for it but what u suggest only comes with touch it's fine but I prefer non touch if possible.
Security : I don't care for it, I'm a IT pro myself so I can handle everything manually.
I wish lenovo/dell could make a customized laptop for me personally. I don't mind paying extra for it ofc but I guess 2L/3L/4L is nothing for them just to build me a specific laptop acc to my needs.
I had a Lenovo laptop earlier and I used to love it but twas 7th gen i5 and I was earning quite less that time so kept it for 5 years. It was 15.6" IPS, with fingerprint at the best location (not power button, twas on right side underneath the keyboard and worked 100% of the times) had ssd, with 8gb ram and one extra slot in which i put 16gb so total 24gb ram.
Now I bought a new laptop of Asus OLED last year with 13th gen i5/16gb ram (Soldered with no extra slot) and fingerprint on power button. I HATE THIS LAPTOP, I JUST HATE IT TO THE CORE. I loved my Lenovo but Lenovo doesn't make laptops anymore which is for my use case so I feel I am damn stuck here. The biggest need I have currently is more ram as I use VM on my laptop and out of 16gb 50% is always used by win 11 and rest when VM (win10) starts, takes 4gb ram and my host laptop's ram usage hits the roof for 85%. So I def need a new laptop for my use. I use youtube too and my current one costed me 80k with i5 h series 13th gen and it fckn' stutters/lags on when i seek(forward) a video, can u imagine? ugh
I know I'm being too picky/choosy here but hey, I'm in my early 30's and I have a business to handle and I'm ready to pay for premium and I am set in my ways (like numpad requirement) so it is what it is.
msi vector 17 is pretty simple if you switch off rgbsame as I commented before, numpad issue with weird looking font on keyboard. Want keyboard which is easy on eyes.
Well good options but I still think that the current system you have is quite a machine for the work task you described....Alright so guys I did check all the series with all models of ThinkPad/book and my specifics come under the most expensive one's (ugh) 😢 I am checking on Lenovo India only and haven't compared yet to Lenovo US etc.
ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 - 2.48L (with GPU), Going with i7 14th gen HX, no OS, 32 GB single ram slot it's ddr5 so it can run dual channel in single right afaik? , 512gb ssd, 16" 2560 x 1600), 500 nits, 165Hz, not yet decided on dedicated GPUor settle with integrated(Dedicated adds 45k more atleast with a1000(or ada) 6gb gddr6, 170w charger (changes if i change gpu)
ThinkBook 16p Gen 5 (Part : 21N5CTO1WW) - 1.83L Going with i7 14th gen HX, no OS, 16x2 ram (wish it had 32gb option in single so i can add more later) , 512 ssd, 16" 3200 x 2000) 430 nits(quite low no?) , 165Hz (yay), rtx 4060 8gb gddr6, fingerprint, backlit, Wi-Fi 6e, 300w charger, 1 yr warranty/adp. (only con is right ctrl is co-pilot key.), all aluminum build.
p16 gen 2 is quite bulky and Thinkbook is not. I'm not updated on what GPU is good(left being into pc gaming like 7-8yrs back) so please guide me here. Again gpu will be only for VM and Chrome usage. Checking other options too and will check tons of videos on both and then decide.
Any other thinkpad series I can't go for as as they don't have 120hz screen atleast and have many other req. not fulfilled which i need but majorly 120hz screen.
I'm looking into Precision's from dell and G15/16 from Dell too.
Aren't you able to customise the ThinkPad X-series laptop in the Lenovo website? You should be able to add a better display and a keyboard with numpad. (Atleast I was able to, a couple of years ago).
Student pass? Are you student of the year in real 🤔So guys I went for it. Used Amex.
Charge was 2,54,489. Used 2 coupon + sheerID student discount + 2500(1250inr) points. I have attached the specs.
I'm expecting 12000 cashback on the card + 5% 12725 affiliate link + 1500 festive spend amex + 5100 normal points (1683 inr) + amex card waiver fee ofc lol total minus fee waiver is 27,908 = 2,26,500. I also got They will ship it on or before nov 14th.
afaik they aren't giving me anything, just the laptop and warranty offer (was it an offer as I did pay ~4k+ for it lol). Legion/yoga pro are getting so many offers like a bag and warranty upgrade for quite less cost + free laser mouse etc.
I'm still not sure if I should have gone for this one or Yoga pro 9i (Yoga has only one ram port soldered but it gives 64 gb soldered option which I guess would have been good enough) , and it had better display I think 165hz with 1200nits, with 4070 RTX, and ultra 9 processor.
or should have gone for legion 5i/7i/9i(9i's too mch lol).
But yeah, that's the update for now.

@TechnoFino Mandal babu, please host TF on this laptop for fast user experience. 🚤
Name bhi mention kar dete model ke sath bas specification?😬
Yes. You did a mistake. You should have gone for 5i Pro with i9 and 4070.So guys I went for it. Used Amex. Bought the Lenovo Thinkpad p16 gen 2.

Curse of too many options... 🙄So this post got into my head, and from last 4-5 days I have been watching videos after videos and reading reddit posts about legion series and they do surely look and feel amazing. I got so impressed that 3 days back I called Lenovo 10 times to cancel, but they said customized laptops can't be cancelled and chargeback isn't an option for me here as I want to buy from Lenovo only. Emailed Lenovo and higher up and amusing thing is Lenovo can't even see my order and are saying my order isn't confirmed, they can't even see my order no in their system.
In the email chain where I told them to cancel, they are saying they are following up with this internally meanwhile the sale is almost over and I'm kinda screwed. But after 3 days where my order isn't cancelled yet and neither have I made new order of a Legion, I kinda feel p16 gen 2 isn't bad at all, it's amazing anyways and if Lenovo ships that laptop, I'll live with it. But ThinkPad's resale value is prolly shit right meanwhile legion's are popular so resale value shd be good (just in case if i decide to sell it in future).
But legions have their own problems and reddit/youtube are filled with posts and videos telling that legions suck, they have many manufacturing problems. I love legion 5i pro, 7i, 7i pro and ofc 9i. 9i has weird keyboard and touchpad placement so ofc i won't go with that and thankfully their price tag is such that it is easy for me to ignore. 9i's cooling system is a gimmick anyways.
One good thing abt p16g2 that i ordered is that is has 4 ram slots and 2 ssd slots, so upgrading would be a breeze (i ordered 32x2 ram with lenovo), but why shd i be worried abt 2 slots in legions anyways as it can be equipped with 64gb ram and m anyways buying 64 only with p16g2. And p16g2 has ram speed limitations of 3600/4000mt/s coz of platform limitation as per lenovo (wtf does that even mean?) and in legions i can easily max out ram's so i am craving for legions. Legions ofc are easily more beautiful compared to the fatty p16g2 but p16g2 will give me cool/quite system compared to legions i think as it is quite fatty (reddit posts say otherwise than p16g2 makes alot of noise and heat up ugh).
Videos of legions are tbh very very confusing , first all legions specs are different and build too if we compare it with indian variant, then next, indian variant themselves have 2023vs2024 variants and 2024 variants have quite less videos (may be 2-3 videos max for 7i pro and 9) so i have less information at hand here and ofc lenovo won't let me try the laptops. I am inclining towards 7i for now as even though it is big, it is not as big as the pro's, and 4060 with 8 gigs shd be enough for my use case (which is 0% gaming) and i am confused for i7/i9, i do care for performance (specially for win 11, with VM and chrome(on host) and i want the best performance. I am thinking of getting 16gb ram variant not 32, so that when it arrives, I'll buy a 32gb ram seperate which will make my total ram 48gigs, that shd be more than enough. I do want it to go 64gb but why waste money when i know even 48gb is overkill for me. But what m confused abt is which one, 7i or 7i pro or 5i/5i pro as information on these laptops in indian youtube is quite less specially of 2024 variants. I am still going through the info.
Ofc I'll go with legions only if lenovo gives me a commitment of cancelling p16g2(m i making the right choice? as p16g2 is amazing too in a diff manner). Will keep everyone updated once i get updated with lenovo.
There is another possibility that if lenovo cancels my orde rafter 3rd nov(when offers/sale stops) then I'll be truely screwed coz discounts/cashbacks/affiliate discounts have quite ruined me. thinkpad p16g2 i got for 2.25L (after every discount/etc) and i am getting legion 7i for 1.3L (after all cashback/discounts). 7i pro i am getting for around 2.65L. All are in my budget but ofc I rather spend less and get the best bang for my buck. I don't care for GPU but 4060 in 7i shd be more than enough for me no? Let's see what happens.
Should not cancel its cool just as it is rn why do you doubt your choices dear!So this post got into my head, and from last 4-5 days I have been watching videos after videos and reading reddit posts about legion series and they do surely look and feel amazing.
