Banks removing Lounge benefits from non-premium cards

Air travel in India is still considered a "exciting premium luxury experience" that needs to be cherished rather than the boring miserable commute that it is in the rest of the world.

For all this to change the perception of air travel has to come down from the level of luxury to that of a "commute" which is not happening anytime soon.

This makes a lot of sense. I travel frequently out of BOM and BLR. These two are probably the shiniest and swankiest airports in India (and maybe the world), but I still try my level best to minimise time spent at airport. I can’t even imagine wanting to “chill” at old AAI airports like PNQ. Novelty of air travel has worn off for me, I suppose only miserable commute remains.

Someone has rightly said "agar 3 baar niagra fall bhi chale jaaogey, toh 4th time bologey - abey jharna hi toh hai".
if you travel regularly, you wont care about its fanciness but you'll mostly only care about how comfortable the airport is.

after a point of time it all becomes that airports and lounge turn into a peaceful resting area for you

For frequent travellers, they want the time spent at airport to be as less as possible. For someone going on a vacation lets say with family may want to utilize the lounge I believe

Many people are caught unaware at the lounge when their cards are not accepted anymore resulting in arguments and serpentine queues

Also, many people will get charged now since many banks are putting minimum spending criterion in previous month to free .

Will take 9-12 months for the dust to settle down and restorage of the old order
Off late this has become a lot more. People keep trying whatever card they have in wallet.
Also asking for option to swipe twice for fellow travellers.

If Axis really wants to up its game it should make an Axis premium lounge.. like Amex has done.. only for Reserve, Magnus, Vistara Infinite.. then even more people will chase their cards..
I agree with you on your suggestions. Having takeaway boxes, I have started seeing them I believe in Mumbai Terminal 2 ( Adani Lounge)
There can even be a separate takeaway counter lets say. This way hopefully some crowd management can be done.

Yeah and suddenly one fine day Axis will "devalue" the lounge and will say only customers with Axis bank accounts with at least 1L balance in it will be allowed to use the lounge. Others can still enter but will not be allowed to eat anything.

This year my domestic travel has increased and hence lounges have become more of a necessity than luxury. Especially for middle of nowhere airports like Blr which requires atleast 2 hr commute and hence you have to keep buffer and often reach airport couple of hr in advance.

Premium lounge access helps and these days I use my CV gold membership more than card swipes as the lines are quite longer.

You are setting the bar very low for Axis. They will go for 30L TRV, 10L AQB with 3 months and 1 Cr balance with Demat, True Burgundy like M4B to give access to the hypothetical lounge, LOL 😀

Yep. Axis is trying to become Amex / Chase / BoA with service quality of failed PNB bank. 😒

Burgundy still have almost all lounge access? Did something changed recently?
That guy said AXIS should have their own lounge that can be accessed only by Magnus, Vistara Infinite, Reserve users. Meanwhile Burgurdy DC holders having million(s) in savings A/C 🥲

One of the things that Credit Card Companies can do is offer meal voucher, HSBC credit card had this, but they changed it recently. Overall, the infra of airport can be made better to have better sitting spaces and bigger lounges.

There is no doubt air traffic is increasing in India, infra has to catch up to it. At some point there will be lot more people who can afford super premium cards what will be complain then? Also, if we see Indian Govt is trying to make India a transit hub like Singapore. I think then foreigners transiting will complain that Indians are paying pennies on dollar and get lounge access, what will we do then. If we see lounge overcrowding is not only problem in India but also in many western countries. There is no one solution which can solve it.

THE AIR TRAFFIC is all pent up demand.Wages arent increasing ,jobs are being cut,its only a matter of time before people will stop affording air tickets if real wages dont go up.
As for infra, tier 1 cities dont have space to expand so it is practically impossible to upgrade infra, thats why reverse migration is a viable solution but for that corporates need to take the lead.
And airports are being developed elsewhere as you can see navi mumbai airport is going to become an alternative for mumbai airport
