In the world of personal finance, many people are always looking for ways to manage their money better and get the most out of their spending. One popular strategy that's gaining traction is using debit cards to pay off credit card bills. This allows you to earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't normally earn rewards. In this article, we'll explore this concept and look at some of the best debit card options for paying off credit card bills.

Understanding the Strategy

Typically, credit card bills are paid using money from a bank account, either automatically or by manual transfer. While these payments don't usually earn rewards, some banks offer cashback incentives for using their debit cards to pay bills. By strategically using a debit card for credit card payments, you can earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't otherwise earn rewards.

Choosing the Right Debit Card

When choosing a debit card for paying credit card bills, there are a few things to consider:
  1. Cashback Percentage: Look for a debit card that offers a good cashback percentage on bill payments.
  2. Debit Card Fees: Consider any fees associated with the debit card, such as monthly fees or transaction fees.
  3. Account Requirements: Make sure you meet any requirements to qualify for the debit card you're interested in.

Just to confirm, how much % points do we get when paying CC bill in Paytm using HDFC millenia DC?
Are these updated in netbanking page, after 90 days?

1% upto 400rs so need to spend 40K. Have to wait 90 days to reflect. If you have multiple credit cards then upgrade to platinum it's really worth the upgrade.

In the original post, it says "2.5% (HDFC Bill Payment Portal)"
Do you know if it still works on any platform? Probably need to update the post.

As indus exclusive gives ~0.93% cashback, What is the max amount that will give that much cashback (as spending more than that will not give additional poitn s due to capping)?
Also, capping of 3000 points per month resets at calender month end ...right?

Yes, it works. I paid my HDFC cc bill on 11 and 14 June on sbiunipay using my ESP debit card and have got 1% cb.
The question would be how reliable is this sbi unipay platform for big transactions.

Can you please confirm in how many days the payment is settled?

How about transaction failure chances for big amounts?

It took 4 days for each payment to reflect on the card. I have actually started using it recently only but iv heard that at time transaction fail. There have been quite a few issues since April'24 onwards. You can search the forum. What I suggest is that you make a first payment of a small amount and if that is successful then make a larger payment.

Axis Burgundy debit card for Citi to Axis Bank customers seems to be getting an upgrade. There seem to be no exclusions to where ER points can be earned. So maybe ER can be earned on CC bill payments using this debit card. Also special burgundy debits cards with the following BIN numbers will have these features : 553682, 553683, 553684,522039, 420750, 471243 & 436360.

ER for domestic transaction is 10ER points / 100. This makes it better than the current 12ER/200 on normal burgundy debit.
ER for international is 3ER/100 spent.

Link for the the new Burgundy debit card for Citi to Axis migrated accounts.

Current is 2/200 not 12/200. 12/200 is for magnus credit card 😅.

I saw this about a week back on twitter but I think it is just a typo. It will be 1 per 100 instead of 10 per 100. That will keep it in sync with existing 2/200. Even burgundy private credit card gives only 15/200. So, this debit card will beat that as well🤣.

Yes, right . 2/200. My bad.. but if it's really 10/100 it beats everything for spends below 1.5 L on MB as well. Also there are no exclusions as of now. Axis will most probably devalue it soon after launch and bring it to par with normal burgundy

Be warned that Unipay is getting failed transactions since yesterday. I lost 99k yesterday on a HDFC CC bill of 1.4lac and again lost 40k today after 10k success.

The refund for this came today so from 19th to 24th makes 5 days. I have been charged around 4k for late bill payment on partial amount have mailed Unipay to refund the amount but not sure they will.

You can easily avoid this by paying the CC bills well in advance. When using unipay I prefer to clear the bills at least 10 days before the due date. Earlier when I was using cred I used to pay 5 days before the due date.
