In the world of personal finance, many people are always looking for ways to manage their money better and get the most out of their spending. One popular strategy that's gaining traction is using debit cards to pay off credit card bills. This allows you to earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't normally earn rewards. In this article, we'll explore this concept and look at some of the best debit card options for paying off credit card bills.

Understanding the Strategy

Typically, credit card bills are paid using money from a bank account, either automatically or by manual transfer. While these payments don't usually earn rewards, some banks offer cashback incentives for using their debit cards to pay bills. By strategically using a debit card for credit card payments, you can earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't otherwise earn rewards.

Choosing the Right Debit Card

When choosing a debit card for paying credit card bills, there are a few things to consider:
  1. Cashback Percentage: Look for a debit card that offers a good cashback percentage on bill payments.
  2. Debit Card Fees: Consider any fees associated with the debit card, such as monthly fees or transaction fees.
  3. Account Requirements: Make sure you meet any requirements to qualify for the debit card you're interested in.

My statement generated for ICICI and SBI on July 8 and both at UniPay says No Dues. :ROFLMAO: I think have to wait for tomorrow as most of banks have set July 13 night as for deploying BBPS Monopoly. Govt to people: Kuch bhi karo, humko jaankari chahiye ek ek txn ki. Kisi ko zyada bill ni bharney denge. Sab startups ko barbaad karke hi maanenge. One Nation, One Payment Option, One Problem, All Suffer so that no one can blame for different problems. BBPS down = Economy down. Agli Baar, Crypto pe vaar. Wallet load only via BBPS.

Anyone please confirm, whether we can pay now in different txn or only in one go. I can see Amount section is editable at SBI Unipay but can we pay till atleast bill amount is reached or after one txn it will give bill already paid error. SBI with BBPS allowed scattered payments from both Unipay and HDFC Billpay.

It showed me the billed amount for Tata Neu card. However for DCB it shows already paid.

For this you can do a nominal txn of Rs. 10-20 every month so that bill is generated…then you can make what ever excess payment you want !!
I don’t think this will work. I’ve personally faced issue while overpaying for SBI cards. Payment was declined.

Have you tried overpaying for HDFC after it went live on BBPS?

I have payed more than billed amount for many cards, including SBI, recently !!

I haven’t payed in excess for HDFC, as I didn’t require to…but I don’t see any problem in that !!

I always use Unipay on laptop browser. Haven’t faced a single transaction failure yet. Used Indus MC/ ICICI Visa/ HDFC Platinum.
Ive used unipay on both mobile and laptop browser but for smaller amounts. Never had a transaction failure.

Please share how to do it.
I think in one of other posts I shared it. SBI allows 5% extra of outstanding amount.

Ex: You have 50000 as due. You can pay 52500 in one go. But in case you pay Rs.20000 then Outstanding due will be 30K now and you can pay only o/s due + 5% so 30000+5% in one go. My bill was 22.3K it shown maximum permissible amount as 22.3K+5% so 22301+1115 = 23416.

Excess payment not working with HDFC as my statement generated at midnight of July 13. Surprised to see BBPS fetched bill this morning at 6AM (maybe after midnight it got bill details from hdfc instantly). But with ICICI CC, it has been a week and yet it say, Payment already done for the period, No bill due. So ICICI which is known for its Digital supermacy, is having bigger problem this time than HDFC who used to be last to implement something and without any flaw. Have to pay 97900 for HDFC due to tax payments last month and 16K with Millennia DC already paid and it got successful instantly.
