In the world of personal finance, many people are always looking for ways to manage their money better and get the most out of their spending. One popular strategy that's gaining traction is using debit cards to pay off credit card bills. This allows you to earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't normally earn rewards. In this article, we'll explore this concept and look at some of the best debit card options for paying off credit card bills.

Understanding the Strategy

Typically, credit card bills are paid using money from a bank account, either automatically or by manual transfer. While these payments don't usually earn rewards, some banks offer cashback incentives for using their debit cards to pay bills. By strategically using a debit card for credit card payments, you can earn cashback on expenses that wouldn't otherwise earn rewards.

Choosing the Right Debit Card

When choosing a debit card for paying credit card bills, there are a few things to consider:
  1. Cashback Percentage: Look for a debit card that offers a good cashback percentage on bill payments.
  2. Debit Card Fees: Consider any fees associated with the debit card, such as monthly fees or transaction fees.
  3. Account Requirements: Make sure you meet any requirements to qualify for the debit card you're interested in.

I was planning to take hdfc millennia debit card for paying cc bills for the 2.5% cashback. Is it worth applying for it now? My monthly cc bills would be around 13-16k only. Is the platinum debit card better even though it's only 1%?

Millennia DC is better in your case, but remember it take 90 days for the cashback to reflect. So, if you have the patience then only otp for that card.

Yeah, millennia is suitable for me, just wondering if at all they remove the cashback for cc bills, with the platinum we can atleast know quickly whether we'll get it or not. With millennia, if they stop cb on cc bills today, would the cb fornthe last 2 months be also blocked?

Edit: asking because I currently hold a salary account with icici, was planning to switch to hdfc as I heard you can get millennia/platinum dc ltf with hdfc salary accounts. Wanted to know if it's worth the hassle.

Well, that's upto HDFC, but generally you will get the points for the old transactions.

Cool. Thanks! 😊
One more thing, I just saw you edited the post.

You can also open a saving max account (25K MAB), you will get platinum DC (by default) for free and you can switch to Millennia DC from the netbanking. There are no charges for DC in saving max variant and it's a decent account. Except IMPS charges, you won't face any issues.

If I switch to millennia dc from netbanking, then in the future would I be able to switch it back to a platinum dc if my requirements change?
