NPCI/RuPay is non-profit company.

NPCI's main objective is to help our PSU banks, Small banks to launch debit/credit cards, online apply option etc.

RuPay's main focus on Tier 2, Tier 3 cities and all other small cities, villages etc and also poor to middle class people.

RuPay help small startups, technology providers to grow.

For example - if you heard about Slice card. Before Slice Visa card. Slice was launched on RuPay network.

Initial days, NPCI/RuPay help slice for all technical assistance. Without help of NPCI/RuPay, Slice's valuation will not touch more than $1 billion.

Every year, NPCI help more than 1000s of small startups, service providers for all technical assistance.

Zeta is also one of them successful startups. Last time i heard, when RBI ban HDFC bank. HDFC bank give contract to Zeta - https://the-ken.com/story/hdfc-rescue-mission-gives-wings-to-zetas-banking-tech-ambitions/

Recently, Mastercard also invest in Zeta.

M2P is another company. 80%-90% RuPay prepaid card payment service provide by M2P.

Due to this growth, recently Visa card also invest in Bengaluru-Based Fintech Startup M2P.

You may not aware about this 2 startup companies like "kiya ai" and "Mindgate Solutions (P) Limited".

This 2 statups recently got contract from NPCI, Union bank and PNB bank for Credit card linking with UPI and UPI Lite for other banks.

One day, im sure this companies will grow and Visa/mastercard also give contract to this companies and also invest money on this startups.

Moral of the story - SBI Cashback card will not launch on RuPay network because the purpose of NPCI/RuPay is not to earn money.

NPCI also run https://nfinite.in/ program where startup companies get all technical assistance from NPCI and NPCI also help this startups to launch Visa/mastercard prepaid/credit cards because visa/mastercard also work under NPCI.

NPCI is umbrella organisation and all payments settlement in India is done through NPCI, doesn't matter you used visa/mastercard/Diners club or RuPay.

RuPay will definitely launch lots of super premium credit cards in future but its upto banks they want to promote or not and if RuPay is turn into for profit company then definitely banks and RuPay both will launch Ultra Premium credit cards on RuPay.

Our country our pride. If our country's payment system surpasses foreign companies then its proud moment for every citizen. Recently I have reduced my visa/master card usage and using rupay cards wherever possible.. But psu banks /rupay network has to improve alot i feel.. Many times there r glitches in payment gateway, otp issues, with time it should.. Hoping for d best

But, how can NPCI and RuPay sustain without profitability?
MDR charges may be ignored for now, but not many banks will want this , as their profits will decline.
Also, Govt. cannot continue to burn money for very long. It won't be sustainable.

NPCI and Govt. must help newly found, and struggling startups, but must also focus on monetising RuPay. Only then, we can go global , and end the monopoly of VISA and Mastercard. You were saying that Mastercard has supported a lot of anti-India elements. Let's see them do that, once RuPay is commercialised.

However, Credit card, even Debit Card integration among shopkeepers, is very very less. Most of them don't even want to accept them, citing less profit margin. But, that is not always true. They are trying to squeeze money. Also, if I am going to a shop to buy a high priced product, they should not expect me to carry cash. And they should not impose their swipe machine charges onto customers.

Credit cards can be a secure mode of payment , and a better financial managing option. Govt. needs to do something to address that. Not sure what though.

Use HDFC Regalia RuPay or Tata Neu RuPay credit cards for better service or use SBI Card RuPay credit cards.

No issue on RuPay network. PSU banks dnt have better payment infrastructure, also they use 3rd party servers, technology providers.

Private banks, SBI use their own servers and technology providers. Also they use premium tier servers.

Btw, why is Regalia on RuPay, but not Millenia?

Another curious question. Since MDR are zero, and RuPay and NPCI are not-for-profit, so does that mean, using RuPay card does not have much benefit for the Govt. , other than saving our Forex Reserves? I thought, there would be more direct profits for our Govt.

+ if mdr is zero.. y does wallets(like paytm, with disclaimer) charge hefty fees for loading money with credit card? They charge almost on par with visa. For rupay prepaid cards it's even more

Yup, recently NPCI CEO also said -
NPCI says need incentivisation on UPI to drive investment in the ecosystem and expand the market

We also need RuPay like more National card schemes. RuPay alone can't beat Visa/mastercard.

We have 1.4 Billion population and have only 1 card payment system.

Brazil, South korea, Uzbekistan, USA, Turkey etc have more than 1 credit card companies.

Even Nepal have 2 local credit card companies and also planning for 3rd one with the help of NPCI. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Btw, why is Regalia on RuPay, but not Millenia?

Bhagwan jane. Millennia RuPay CC already available but didn't get go live certificate from RuPay.

Na, na. NPCI earn profit, this FY NPCI earn approx 400 crores.

Non-profit means NPCI's owner companies/banks like SBI, BOB, All PSU banks, ICICI, HDFC, Axis, HSBC, Citi bank dnt get any divident from NPCI and reinvest all money in NPCI.

NPCI team also visit Indian villages and teach them how to use RuPay Card and UPI. All earning is using here. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Zero MDR is only for RuPay debit cards upto Rs2000 transaction. Govt pay 0.4% MDR subsidy to banks, payment gateway companies and other technology service providers.

RuPay prepaid cards and RuPay credit cards charged MDR 2% to 3%. depend on merchant category.

RuPay credit card linking UPI. only transaction upto Rs2000 is Free. Above Rs2000 transaction charged 2% to 3% MDR.
