Canara Bank Credit Card Eligibility Criteria - Super Strange Experience at Branch

Total bullshit. The policy is below
FOR self employed - ITR (not anything else)
The rule for credit limit is - 30% of itr is the monthly credit limit
No such rule if you have multiple cards.
They checked crif but the thing they can check Experian, cibil, crif score out of these 2 must have a cibil score more than 700. If the first 2 is 700 or more they don't have the authority to check the 3rd one.
Main point - branch manager has the authority to approve the credit limit upto 1 lakh. There is a section in form where it is asked by customer how much credit limit they want to apply for. If you request to ask limit more than 1 lakh form will be forwarded to the credit card internal team( state main office).
They cannot refuse to give you the card if you fullfill these criteria.
Raise a complain in grievence. card will be approved in a day.
If you have any more doubt feel free to ask. Can answer questions for canara bank
@PayKaroAbhi
Thanks for your response, I would actually like to know more about their application process actually. Because the way branch manager was talking, I felt that he will just deny my application even if I submit that after the argument because all things are in his hands in Canara Bank. Also I just don't know why he was actually asking for trade licence! this was very funny 🤣

Try with another branch

What a shit bank is this guys!

Even for a secured card application, they made me wait for 1 hr in the branch and took consent via OTP that day. Again today called me to visit branch to verify something again via OTP which they forgot to do that day. They denied to complete this step virtually by sending the link and I denied to visit again. What to do now?

Why take secured card. Drop the idea of you want secured card not worth it. I think you can apply secured card online

Hey everyone,

I had a strange and questionable experience today at a semi-urban Canara Bank branch, and I think it's important to share. I’d also love to hear your opinions.

I visited the branch to inquire about their unsecured credit cards, and the branch manager himself handled my request. However, the way he assessed my eligibility raised several red flags.

1. Asked for Trade License for ITR-4

Since I file ITR-4, he insisted I must provide a trade license because my income is from business.

This makes no sense because I am a freelancer, not a business owner, and ITR-4 is valid for presumptive taxation, including freelancers.

2. Strange Credit Limit Rule – No Official Proof for Public!

After I gave consent for the credit check, they pulled my CRIF report instead of CIBIL.

He saw that I hold multiple credit cards with a strong total credit limit.

Then, he presented a bizarre rule:
“Your total credit limit across all banks should not exceed 30% of your reported ITR income.”

Example: If my ITR shows ₹5 lakhs, my total credit limit (from all banks) should not exceed ₹1.5 lakhs (30% of ₹5L).

🚨 The biggest issue?
There is NO public documentation for such a rule! These eligibility criteria are completely hidden from us, the customers. We cannot verify them anywhere!

3. Denied Unsecured Card Just Because I Have Other Credit Cards?

Since I already have multiple credit cards, I was denied an unsecured card, even though my financial profile is strong.

This is not a proper or fair approach.

I personally know many people holding multiple cards who still got Canara credit cards without these weird conditions.

🔴 This raises a serious concern: We, as customers, have no access to Canara Bank’s internal eligibility rules and policies, yet they are being applied in a way that seems arbitrary or even misleading. How do we verify what’s real and what’s just branch-level misinformation?

Has anyone else faced such issues?

Would love to hear from others—is this a real internal policy or just an excuse used by the branch? Let’s discuss!
Yes same thing happened with me two months back and was given exactly the same reason. BM told me to take secured card instead

Can we get a pre approved card in canara bank by making an fd even if unsecured one was declined due to overleveraged? This trick worked for federal

Not sure because I already had a FD and I inquired about the FD card when they started telling me those funny things
