Canara bank reject credit card application saying you have too many credit cards

I recently applied for Canara bank credit card last month. On 20th i got message saying your card if processed with credit limit of 200000. No feedback after that so i went to bank and asked for status of application. Yesterday I got a call saying that since high limit was provided so the application was rejected. Now today i got a call saying since you have too many credit cards so regional office rejected your application. I have almost 20 around credit cards. This is first time i am hearing any such thing. Anybody has gone through the same situation and is there any workaround for this. Please don't tell to close the cards as i recently closed 2-3 cards and might close 2-3 more in coming months.

Following the thread. What should be the total credit limit, wrt to Annual ITR/Salary

Branch manager near by area told while opening a zero balance account for applying credit card having a total limit of 10 lakhs credit limit will result in rejection. Also too many credit card will lead to rejection.

Total number of credit cards is something which could make a little sense though I haven't seen that in any other banks. Credit limit is something that bank provides so if they themselves provide high credit limit and then reject it, it doesn't make sense.

SBI and BoB(sometimes) also does it. In pvt. AU and Federal does it
Why you guys are after canera btw? Lounge benefits are goner, if not today...

I resumed my dormant canara bank account for RSDC so thought to take credit card also as I have seen some discount offers associated with it. For lounge benefits I have other cards.

My Canara branch manager approved my RuPay Platinum with 50K limit but was really grumpy about me having too many credit cards. Every time he meets me, he rants about it and every time I request add-on card, he denies it!
Even I am thinking to go and talk to BM once or maybe wait for 3 months and then try to apply again.

Till now I never had any requirement to maintain my relationship with BM. I only visited my axis bank(salary account) max 3-4 times in my 13 years of working. I had opened this canara bank account for home loan change but that didn't go through. Anyways now I see the importance of BM when we need some trivial things from bank.
