Canara Bank SB Select account launched with lifetime free Rupay platinum debit card

Canara Bank SB Select account launched recently. Many people doesn't know about it. So, I thought let's share a overview of this account.

*It offers unlimited free NEFT/IMPS/RTGS.

*Main benefit is zero annual charges Rupay platinum debit card. Canara Rupay platinum debit card charges 590 per year.So it's a big benifit, specially for me.

*No charges for sms alerts.

*Unlimited free locker operations.

*No initial deposit required for new account opening.

Eligibility:
Minimum balance for Rural 10000,Semi Urban 15000, Urban 20000, Metro 25000.

My branch is in semi urban area, So my minimum balance is 20000. I considered this account because this Bank's branch is the nearest to my house.The branch staff are really helpful there and despite being a PSU it's not crowded at all.I prefer going to the offline branch to do some cash transactions. I had normal savings account since 2013. The minimum balance for that account was 2000. And was not offering any kind of benifits+it had all the charges. And debit card charges for classic variant was 218(totally useless card) and Rupay platinum Card was 590(Very high charges).
That's why I converted my normal savings account to Select account by giving a request while visiting branch.

The Rupay platinum Card is instantly generated if someone has any other variant. And it's totally free. Second debit card/alternate debit card can also be issued but it will be chargeable. My rupay platinum debit card is delivered by India post today, and it looks really beautiful.

So, If anyone has the similar situation like me, and if anyone wants psu bank account except SBI, they can certainly consider Canara SB select account .

The rupay platinum debit card is free with this account and on top of it you can get a first year free rupay select. This needs to be applied through net banking or from branch

That's a clever combination. I asked at the branch today and they said 2nd RuPay Platinum would be chargeable.

That is correct by default the platinum is offered and it is free I ordered the select as extra through net banking and it is chargeable from year 2. By the way these cards provide you an ncmc wallet largely controlled through the canara aone app itself.

After 20 days, and threat of RBI complaint after no reply from even Nodal officer, and multiple branch visits, they converted my SB General to SB Select. Can see in Netbanking. But issued Visa debit card on it. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Now will have to hotlist it, system may take hotlisting charges which I will have to force them to reverse and get RuPay Platinum.

After around 45-50 days Canara RuPay Platinum arrived at my home

Oh I had forgotten the joys of a PSU bank. Not that private banks are any better - they also do delays and goof-ups like this.

1. How many days does it take for the account upgrade?
2. Will new debit generate automatically after upgrade request or must I request it separately online/offline?
3. How do we confirm the account status via mobile app/net banking?

I was hoping like Angel account this will also have 5K QAB with LTF Rupay Platinum DC. Unfortunately not. So, my account stays as it is with 2K balance for ever, just because of the locker.

1. Account upgrade is done instantly (as soon as the branch staff process your request)
2. New debit card will be generated automatically and will be delivered in approx 7-10 days.
3. You can verify your account status in net banking ( account details).

Does the concept of hotlist still exist? It was there in those days when EDC machines were not there and people used to look at a list before accepting your card.

Yes, Canara Bank still uses that term and charges 150+gst. Can be done online or in offline.

Canara Bank added annual maintenance charges (590 Rupees) in my account, I upgraded my regular account to select account almost 10 months ago. I had a rupay platinum card with canara bank before, Thats why they didn't send me another rupay platinum card after the account upgrade.

I have always maintained more than 30k monthly average balance. According to canara bank website, If we maintain required MAB, the annual maintenance fees of debit card should not be levied. But canara bank is a lair, I think.

I lodged a complaint in their grievance redressal website ( Canara CPGRS) to reverse my inappropriate fees but they have closed the complaint without any proper response.

I know 590 Rupees is not a huge amount, But I feel cheated after the incident with canara bank , please guide me what to do next .
