Dear TF Family,

1. Infinia Void. I have Infinia Metal credit card, but it does not offer RPs on fuel transactions. As I do have substantial fuel transactions, therefore, there was a felt need to plug this void. Accordingly, I homed on to BPCL SBI Octane credit card which is offering maximum rewards of 6.25% on all fuel transactions (7.25% if you factor in the fuel surcharge waiver) at BPCL outlets, and some additional benefits.

2. Comprehensive Guide on BPCL SBI Octane Credit Card. During my research on Octane credit card, I came across numerous blogs, articles, forums, et al discussing the features of Octane credit card. So, I decided to compile a comprehensive guide on Octane based on open-source research and my own experiences of using the card since June 2024.

Update for people purchase Bharat gas with this card:
If you purchase it from HELLO BPCL app, merchant is 9399 (Government Services). Merchant name: BPCLSMARTCARD IN. You will get only 1X RP, not 25X.

Credit Score Rectification
In the latest SBI Card App ver 7.5.2 (1 October 2025), there is a provision now to "request rectification for any inaccuracies in your Credit Report provided by Credit Bureaus. Visit Credit Score > Rectify Credit Report" (produced verbatim from the SBI Card App features on Google Play Store).

In the app, once you reach the rectify credit score sub menu, there are options for four credit bureaus - Cibil, Equifax, Crif and Experian. The reasons for rectification (as given in the sub-menu of the app, produced verbatim here) include:
  • Rectify current balance / account closure date / amount overdue
  • Update credit facility / write-off status
  • Remove enquiry by SBI Card
  • Card not reported to bureau

Since I do not have any issue with Cibil score as on date, so I have not further checked the sub-menus.

However, I hope it helps those who have an issue with their credit score - they can use this feature and see how effective it is. 🙂

2 months back when I booked the same on app, merchant name was BPCL LTD, which gave the promised points. Recently I used airtel card so can't share my experience.
 
Change of POS Machines and Their Effect

I have been filling fuel at a BPCL outlet near my place of residence. The POS machines at this filling station are being changed. My experiences in the last one month are summarised below:-
  • I filled the fuel as usual from this filling station. Accordingly, after filling the fuel and payment by Octane card, I received the SMS for the said transaction in the name of Mr XYZ and not the name of the BPCL ABC Filling Station, that I normally do.
  • So, I spoke to the owner of the station whose contact number was printed on the fuel transaction slip. He was kind enough to inform me all these details - that the POS machines are getting changed from PayTM to PhonePe and hence this issue of getting SMS in the name of Mr XYZ who was the owner/proprietor of the filling station. He informed me that the new machines will get registered with BPCL in a few days' time.
  • I asked him what about the RPs and fuel surcharge waiver. He said once the new machines are registered, it will become status quo ante. However, till that happens, he had no solution.
  • So, on reaching home I clicked the photo of the transaction slip and the charge slip for raising a complaint later if required.
  • I waited for 2-3 days for the transaction to settle. As I had correctly surmised, the RPs were not corrected and the fuel surcharge waiver was not given.
  • So I raised a complaint with the customer care. The SBI team emailed me requesting for the charge slip and the transaction slip, which I duly emailed as I was ready for this situation and had planned for it before hand.
  • In 2-3 days' time, the RPs were duly credited along with the fuel surcharge waiver.
Recommendation
One must check the SMS that one gets after the card transaction. If something is amiss - as in my case - one should call the customer care and raise a complaint and then act accordingly.

Sbi ka funda clear hai, always ask for invoice for machine and may be the payment slip from pos machine.

Once I forgot to take this, I went after a week and took a handwritten bill with BPCL logo on bill, that also worked and due points were given to me.

No brother because pos slip pe BPCL logo ni hota, mostly pinelabs likha hota hai.
I mean will petrol bunk person give the slip with previous dated ?
Yes he gave me previous dated bill because on that day the machine printer was not working due to which he could not provide me with the printed invoice from dispenser machine.
 
I had completed the 3 L milestone in the last statement. But even after 2 weeks, no move from their side to ask me which voucher I want. So I emailed customer care. After a few mails, got the voucher
