Hey TFCians,
Did you know that if your credit card application gets rejected, you can still ask the bank to reconsider it? đź‘€
Yes, that’s absolutely possible!
If you want to understand the full process in detail, check out this video on our TechnoFino YouTube Channel:
🎥 Credit Card Application Rejected? How To Get It Approved | Application Reconsideration 🔥🔥🔥
Now let’s get into the details 👇
This works particularly well if:
In your email, clearly mention that you’d like your credit card application to be reconsidered, and then explain whyyou deserve approval.
4. CitiBank - Rejected multiple times, but finally approved my card in July 2021 after I wrote to them.
5. HSBC - Rejected several times, and even after multiple reconsideration requests, they still haven’t approved my application.
The final decision always rests with the bank, but it’s definitely worth trying.
I’ve benefited from this method multiple times, and many others in our community have too. So, if your credit card application has been rejected recently - don’t give up!
And remember one thing:
"As a customer, you can ask for anything from your bank. If you don’t ask, the bank won’t offer it to you on its own."
Update Note (6th November, 2025):
I personally got approved for many cards after following this method - including the SBI Cashback Card, HSBC Platinum, 6 cards from Axis Bank, 5 cards from HDFC Bank, and a few more - all after sending reconsideration emails to those banks.
But again… you won’t always succeed every time. Sometimes, you just have to accept the bank’s decision and move on.

Now let’s get into the details 👇
What Is Credit Card Application Reconsideration?
When a bank rejects your credit card application, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the road. You can send a reconsideration request asking them to review your application again - with stronger supporting documents and reasons this time. This works particularly well if:
- You already have a good credit history.
- You hold premium cards from other banks.
- You can demonstrate stable income or existing financial relationships.
How To Request Reconsideration
You need to email the bank’s credit card grievance or escalation team (you can find all bank email IDs and phone numbers in our dedicated TFC thread - All Bank Credit Card Department Email ID & Phone No).In your email, clearly mention that you’d like your credit card application to be reconsidered, and then explain whyyou deserve approval.
Tips To Make Your Email Effective:
- Write your own email - avoid using AI or templates. Banks can easily identify generic AI-written emails.
- Mention why you need the card and your profession or occupation.
- Explain that you wish to build a long-term banking relationship with them.
- Mention that you’re ready to move your Fixed Deposits (FDs) or cash balance to their bank to start this relationship.
- Highlight premium cards you already hold from other banks to show your creditworthiness.
- Attach documents like your ITR, salary slip, other bank account statement, and credit card statement to strengthen your case.
My Personal Experiences:
I’ve personally gone through this process several times, and here’s how it worked out for me:- BOB - My Eterna card application was rejected back in 2021. I emailed for reconsideration, and it was approved soon after.
- Yes Bank - My Yes First Exclusive application was rejected. After I requested reconsideration, they approved it.
- IndusInd Bank - Initially rejected, later approved after my reconsideration request.
4. CitiBank - Rejected multiple times, but finally approved my card in July 2021 after I wrote to them.
5. HSBC - Rejected several times, and even after multiple reconsideration requests, they still haven’t approved my application.
My Take:
So yes, reconsideration requests do work, but not always. The final decision always rests with the bank, but it’s definitely worth trying.
