Hi Folks,

Starting a thread to get your feedback on the acceptance of cards on Diners network in Kochi, Kerala.

I've got an FYF upgrade to DCB Metal and have been calculating the odds of meeting the annual spend criteria of INR 8L.

Please let me know your experience with acceptance of this card. I've been asking this question to many people via comments and have been getting mixed reviews, hence starting a thread to help other fellows as well.

Thanks,
Srikar

Been using DCB Metal in Kochi for about 3 months now and extensively to meet the 8L limit 🙂 and so far it has worked everywhere right from Lulu to small neighbourhood stores! For some reason Tap and Pay hasnt worked for me anywhere (to an extent that now I have even stopped trying), but I read today on this group that DCB Metal tap and pay for some reason works only on HDFC machines.

Yes, even I'm quite happy with acceptance at Kochi. However facing the same issue with tap and pay, this is mainly because the merchants turn off transactions via Diners blacks and take through Rupay (is what I've understood).
Tap and pay should mostly work on HDFC and Pine Labs machines.

It's not that. It's actually tokenization problem with diners. You can't even setup auto pay on it. At least netflix wasnt accepting.

Can you explain more about this?
I'm not an expert on this.
Tokenization is basically the terminal replaces card info with another digital token so that if intercepted, it's worthless.

Diners accepts tokenization but not every POS / bank are directly connected to diners. Hence only hdfc terminal being parent company work. Rest won't. I wanted to create a standing instruction for EMI payments for club Mahindra holiday but couldn't because of this.

I think some RBI rule mandated that all payment processors must store their data in India. Diners got around by tying up with rupay itself for this, which in itself is another payment service. So tap & pay doesn't work.

Hello @ajitjtnew @Sriky How's your acceptance experience for Diners been since last? Have you tried it outside Kochi too? In smaller towns and at smaller shops?

In Kochi - it's been way better than expected.
90% acceptance on a high level. In most places it's through swipe I get access, tap n pay doesn't work except for Paytm and Pinelabs machines.

Things are better than I'd expected initially.

Thank you - looks like HDFC has really worked on improving acceptance after all the complaints. I spotted a HDFC POS machine in a restaurant which was not accepting DCP earlier that is now accepting Diners cards.
