HDFC CC portal offering paid DCB, Is there any way to make it LTF or FYF?

I’m seeking advice on a credit card situation with HDFC. My compensation is heavily reliant on a yearly bonus, which means my monthly salary credit is around INR 165,000. According to my Relationship Manager, this doesn't meet the criteria for a DCB (Diners Club Black) card.

However, I've noticed a pre-approved DCB offer on the HDFC Credit Card portal, six months after opening my account with HDFC. The issue is that this card is fully paid, meaning there's a 10k joining fee with no joining benefits.

  1. Is there any way to get this DCB offer changed to a Lifetime Free (LTF) or at least First Year Free (FYF) card?
  2. Given that they seem to be bypassing their own criteria by offering me the DCB despite my monthly salary credit, is there any possibility to convince them to offer me an Infinia card instead?
The RMs as usual are not picking up the calls.

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. DCB lifetime free is unlikely.
You will need to negotiate for FYF. They may milk you for ULIPs with high commission for them.
It's not worth paying 11800 joining fee & renewal fee for DCB with no real cash benefit .

2. You need over 45 lakhs income tax return for even paid Infinia.

You could apply for HDFC Swiggy LTF, which is now their second best card after Infinia, after
10%/5% cash back in the form of swiggy cash was recently upgraded to 10%/5% statement credit.

Also considering that DCB costs 11800 as joining fee and renewal fee., while the joining benefits have no real cash value. There is no renewal benefit.

Interesting! never thought of this option. Many thanks for the new perspective. Will research hdfc swiggy. Thanks 🙂

Shouldn't OP get a core card first before getting co branded card ,

You could also apply for Atlas with 10% return on direct hotels and direct flights and 4% return on everything else.

Atlas is much better than DCB, considering that DCB costs 11800 as joining fee and renewal fee., while the joining benefits have no real cash value. There is no renewal benefit also

I don't think it's worth paying for DCB or Regalia gold, with no real compensation for the joining fees and annual fees.

A paid Infinia is definitely worth it, but he does not qualify
DCB i get it ,but Regalia Gold has joining benefits and Annual Fee waiver on 4L ,which is quite doable

Also OP can take some lower LTF variant like Millennia or DCP if it's LTF

LTF Swiggy is much better than millennia.
There are many categories and many MCC codes which offer 5% real cashback as statement credit.
And 10% real cashback on swiggy.
maximum cashback 1500 per month

Oh absolutely HDFC Swiggy LTF is a great card right now ,but if someone gets a cobranded card with having a core card with HDFC ,makes it difficult to get core card later

Tata Neu Infinity is a great card as well for upi spends

Thanks. I already have Atals and used its 150k reward limit. And I also have a Amex Plat Travel.
And I agree with you that Atlas is a much better card. But of late I have been very disappointed by Axis and its customer support and unjust devaluations.

If you could elaborate this part
I already mentioned that there is no real cash value for the joining benefits of DCB.
And I don't think it make sense to spend any money on regalia gold, considering the extremely low returns.

Infinia costs 2250 after considering the joining benefit, so it's worth it

My bad always thought that DCB Metal gave points for annual/joining fees

DCB metal is good if one can achieve 4 lac milestone spend in at least 1-2 quarters especially since every spend is included for milestone (be it govt, NPS, fuel etc). So 10k points on 4 lac is additional 2.5% return.

Even if you consider return of 10000 on 4 lacs, it's not even going to recover your joining fees 11800, leave alone annual fees 11800
