Changing the Billing Date. In my case, the experiences were as follows:-
For HDFC Credit Card. I just called the Customer Care No and requested them to change the billing date. They noted the request and within one day it was changed. I could see it in the HDFC MyCards App. The whole process was smooth. Do note that HDFC Customer Care informed me that certain dates like 28, 29, 30, 31 and 1 cannot be the billing dates due to their internal policies. Accordingly, my request for 2nd of every month was approved.
For SBI Credit Card. Again, I just called the Customer Care No and requested them to change the billing date. They noted the request and it was changed immediately and I got a confirmatory message within that day. The whole process was again smooth. I set the billing date as 1st of every month. I could see it in the SBI Card App within one day. There was no requirement of making any payments.
For Amex Credit Card. I called the Customer Care No and they informed me that first I have to clear all the dues and then raise the request. Accordingly, I first cleared all the dues, waited for the transaction to settle, and then gave them a call again. They informed me that I could opt for either 2nd or 5th or 8th, as per their internal policies. So, I opted for 2nd of every month. They noted down the request and the billing date was changed within 2-3 days. The whole process was a bit longer and not as smooth. Well, Amex being Amex...!
Reason for Opting for 1st/2nd of Each Month as Billing Date.
I opted for choosing 1st or 2nd of every month as the billing date with my own rationale and preferences. It aligns with the monthly expenditure cycle, making it easier to track the monthly expenses - through credit cards or otherwise. Also, it precludes any confusion regarding accruing and/or cappings of Reward Points (RPs) - whether they are based on calendar month or billing cycle, as if the billing date is on 1st or 2nd of every month then the billing cycle and the calendar month are aligned. And since I am aware of the impending credit card payments for that month, I can monitor and temper my expenditure for that month accordingly.
Also, I avoid any major expenditure on 1st and 2nd of every month, so that I can "see" some money in the bank account before the expenditure starts wef 3rd. This generates a feel-good psychological factor, albeit short-lived. 🙂
Hope this helps.
