HDFC Credit Card Dept. started a Jumbo Loan without my Consent.

TF Buzz
I have Tata Neu Plus HDFC Credit Card and on 29th Jan. the HDFC credit card customer care called and was enquiring about my card.
I told her that is it possible to upgrade my card from Plus to Infinity variant to which said to hold on and then sent two OTPs to my registered number to tell to her.

Now I was in work and didn't notice they were for Jumbo loans and the next day I got an sms that a jumbo loan has been processed against my card.
So basically I was deceived to take a loan which I never gave consent or applied to.
I called up their customer care who said there would be some 3% pre-closure charges to cancel it.
I wrote to their support emails and they replied they will address it within seven days. Twitting them was of no use.

Meanwhile I got another sms from Blue Dart that a Demand Draft is arriving with the loan amount. I again mailed HDFC saying that I would reject it and send it back.

I also registered a complaint on RBI Ombudsman online portal detailing all this.

Funny thing is Blue Dart didn't call me , nor it delivered anything and the tracking showing "Consignee not available".

Edit: Today Blue Dart guy called me before delivering, I said I won't accept that parcel so he may well return it to the shipper.
Now the tracking status showing "Consignee Refused To Accept".

Today I got two Statements - one is the normal Credit Card statement which is generated on 1st of every month, and another is jumbo loan interest statement, the Demand Draft of which I never received.
I wrote another mail to HDFC about this but not sure if things will be resolved like this.

So should I pay the normal due amount of the card and then block/close the card? I'm not paying that jumbo loan's interest that I never took.
Or should I visit the nearest HDFC branch in my locality and tell them about this? I don't have any account with HDFC bank, I just use their credit card.
Or the consumer court is the last resort?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion and advice.

You can cancel within first month without any penalty

Wait sometime before making any payment of card dues. It should get resolved in 7 working days. I think that draft will go back to them. Again call hdfc customer care to close the loan immediately either by cancelling that draft (after that returned). Or if u take that draft then go to branch to cancel the loan as early as possible. They will refund charges. Also ask them to take action against the bank officials who have applied that loan for u without proper consent. Ask them to check their call recordings.

Keep your outstanding clear. Pay everything in full.
I always keep my outstanding clear and pay the dues at the earliest from the statement date. I will be paying the normal due shortly. But why should I pay the jumbo loan's interest which I never applied for? Even the DD of 3,70,000/- wasn't delivered by Blue Dart. I would have rejected it anyway. But, thank you for your answer.

And no doubt about this:
Giving OTP without care was your mistake. Don't make another one.

@Vasuki @2025 Thanks for the answers.
I found these forms after searching: Should I fill up the last form of PNO?
1st step - focus on closing the loan
Meet branch manager

2nd step - complaint to rbi but since u complied with otp it's your fault too
So
While compliant to rbi write u never gave otp for loan and it was recorded call so you need access to it for justice 😂
Hdfc will compensate you
But go full on for
Loan closer first'

Okay.
This is a case of blatant deception and I want to file complaints in as many ways possible.
Those loan guys and gals are insanely desperate to start processing a loan somehow by hook or crook. Everyday there are swarm of calls I get to dismiss from all the various loan offers, insurance offers, card offers and what-not from both HDFC and ICICI (I also have their credit card as well) and other banks and NBFC entities but this one got in somehow and messed things up.
Will update things here as it goes.

Well, the call recording will prove that customer care didn't utter a word about jumbo loan offer. Otherwise I would have hanged up the phone then and there.
She only enquired about the card profile as if to verify and then I asked her if she can upgrade the card. No words of loans were spoken. That's why I said it was total deception.
By the way, I already filed complaint to RBI Ombudsman online: https://cms.rbi.org.in/cms/indexpage.html#eng

In SMS, it will be very clearly given that this OTP is for loan. You have given the consent and you are crying now that you have been deceived
Didn't you read fully? The customer care said nothing about any loan offer, instead spoke like as if the card upgrade was being processed. That's why it was a deception case. Doesn't matter what was in the OTP. If you tell someone you are upgrading their card and instead start processing a loan, that's plain cheating and deceiving.

If you don't want to learn and you are having a feeling that you got deceived, Customer care will like you such people. Wish you good luck to customer care

It IS a case of deceiving, and I will go as far needed to resolve this.
