Devaluation HDFC SmartBuy New Charges on Amazon & Flipkart Voucher Purchase

I was using Swiggy hdfc to buy Amazon gift voucher from smartbuy to pay society maintenance fee which takes az pay but charges 2.36% as convenience. I was barely staying afloat combining smartbuy convenience fee and mygate convenience fee. Now Swiggy card is dead for me

Now upto diners privilege every card is just a normal card on smartbuy portal

Barely afloat as in the delta was quite minimal and not worth it. Obviously this has no impact on my life on standard of living, human nature is to crib whenever you face minor inconvenience. I don’t understand this holier than thou behaviour

HDFC really devaluing their DCB

For Infinia, it still makes sense, but for DCB, 5.9% will not make much sense. Could get 5% via SBI cashback itself

But still the reward points that they give beats this additional amount they are imposing on gift vouchers in the form of gst.

Reward points, if you use it on hdfc smartbuy portal for flight or hotel booking, u can redeem the points at a ratio of 1:1 (2 reward point equals to 1 rupee) which is still not bad at all

HDFC SmartBuy have now introduced below additional charges on Flipkart, Amazon Pay & Amazon Shopping Vouchers bringing down the effective reward rate.
1. Flipkart Gift Voucher: 2.5% + GST
2. Amazon Shopping Voucher: 3.5% + GST
3. Amazon Pay Gift Card: 3.5% + GST

I too noticed it yesterday when buying apay vouchers but was confused, i checked that I have paid 2.5% earlier but a post here also said it was upped to 3

You are basically contradicting your own statement by saying 1:1, and then saying 2RPs are 1rs.

Also, while yes it does, a lot of entry level to mid tier cards are beating the RR or almost at par.

SBI Cashback, ICICI apay via iShop (4% iCash & 1% as Apay balance), Axis atlas etc.

Plus, you are basically paying 4.13% upfront which is not worth the 0.9% extra you get on DCB imo

IShop does not impose any additional charges. Consequently, I have changed my gift voucher purchasing from HDFC DCB METAL and BIZ BLACK to ICICI TIMES BLACK.

This is why at the start of every month I purchase full limit of Amazon and Bigbasket vouchers through my EPM that anyday now ICICI may also add convenience charge to their voucher transaction.

No. It is 5%. 1% in Apay & 4% in iCash, when bought via iShop. They were probably referring to Apay bought via Amazon app using Apay ICICI

Well, now we can say SBI Cashback >= DCB
REASON: I can purchase Amazon E Gift card and earn 5%, and also 1% back while doing payment, totalling 6%.
Where as DCB can fetch only 5.9%.

Added to this, CB limit on SBI Cashback is 5000 per month. On DCB 590 effectively for Amazon vouchers.

Would like to see how people work around DCB spends and annual milestone post this through other spends especially paid card holders. Now it only makes sense for those who actually use Smartbuy multiplier for travel related bookings. For those who chased the card making endless spends on previous card (at a low reward rate) with no guarantee of upgrade but still made it and now this. Sad. Instances and devaluations such as this highlight a critical fact never chase a card just for the hack or FOMO rather pursue it (reasonably) if it matches one’s lifestyle. Nothing is permanent in the world.
