Four days ago, while exploring postpaid options in the Airtel Thanks app, I accidentally switched my Airtel prepaid plan to the ₹1199+GST Infinity Postpaid Plan (1 primary + 3 add-on connections) after confirming an OTP. Instantly, I received a message about a 100GB data credit. After realizing the switch, I contacted Airtel Black support to understand the compensation for unused prepaid validity.
Here’s what they told me:

Instantly, I received a message about a 100GB data credit. After realizing the switch, I contacted Airtel Black support to understand the compensation for unused prepaid validity.
Here’s what they told me:
- Airtel compensates for unused prepaid validity when switching to postpaid. For validity left on a prepaid plan, compensation is ₹200 for 1-28 days, ₹400 for 29-56 days, and ₹600 for 57-84 days.
- Compensation is credited as a maximum of ₹100 per billing period per number.
- Primary Number: I had 4 days of prepaid validity, so Airtel said I’d get ₹200, though only ₹100 is showing this billing cycle and can get 100Rs in next bill cycle but lacks transparency.
- Add-on Number 1: 59 days of validity left, promised ₹600, but only ₹100 showed up. Airtel said I’d receive ₹100/month in future bills, but I’m still concerned about transparency.
- Add-on Number 2: 29 days of validity, so I should get ₹400. However, no credit appeared, and Airtel insists there was no remaining validity. This is my biggest issue.
- Add-on Number 3: 12 days of validity, eligible for ₹200. I’m waiting to address this until my other add-on Number 2, credit issue is resolved.
- Airtel customer service couldn’t retrieve my prepaid recharge history, despite me sharing screenshots and transaction IDs.
- My prepaid recharge history section in the Airtel Thanks app disappeared post-migration, so I can’t verify validity details myself.
- I’ve reached out to Airtel support (121 and Appellate), but the response has been limited, and I don’t have any Airtel stores nearby (the closest one is 200km away).
- Is there an official capping on compensation credits per billing period?
- Has anyone experienced similar issues with postpaid migrations and compensation for leftover prepaid validity?
- Any tips on verifying my previous validity to Airtel without access to the prepaid transaction history in the app?
- If I link my current plan to Airtel Black along with my Airtel postpaid Wi-Fi, the total would be around ₹1885. Since my Airtel Axis Credit Card has a cashback limit of ₹250, can I split the payment (e.g., ₹1000 on one card and the rest on a second Airtel Axis card) to maximize cashback in Airtel Black?
- My Airtel Postpaid Infinity Plan (₹1199) offers OTT benefits: Hotstar and Prime for 1 year each. I’ve heard that migrating to Airtel Black may remove these OTT benefits as they’d switch to the Black plan’s offerings. Is this true?
