I am a victim of Financial fraud in the name of sbi card's Nodal officer -Lost 5000Rs

I got a call from a person named karan sharma pretending to be from sbi card nodal officer from +91 9508189953 on 24/11/2025. He called me by mentioning about the mail which I sent on 22nd November 2025 with nodal officer of sbi cards. I already sent a mail to nodal officer of sbi credit card on 22/11/2025 via mail related to the sbi BPCL card concern. So this fraud person informed me that he called me based on the mail received from my end on 22/11/2025.

Regarding the concern which I sent to nodal, he asked me which resolution I want, whether the fee Reversal or converting the card to sbi BPCL octane Lifetime free . So regarding the conversion to sbi BPCL octane lifetime free of my SBI BPCL normal card he asked me to do some procedures in official sbi portal on" https://crcf.bank.sbi/ccf" by raising the request by mentioning my concern related to the conversion of my sbi card to Lifetime free .He told me to enter the complaint as it infomed by him as" I am raising a request to upgrade my sbi BPCL rupay card ending with XXXX under the ltf mode as per bank records. Kindly accept the enach for SBI BPCL octane rupay variant as LTF with reference id XYZX( IMT sms code for Cash withdrawal) /24/11/2025 ( date)".
He created this thread just to get the IMT sms code only . He asked me to do a transaction in sbi yono app or any other bank account to get this reference id. IMT(Instant Money Transfer)sms code along with the date as made me belief that it was a reference id .


He asked me to open AXIS MOBILE app --> payment & transfer ---> IMT. He asked me to register the payee as myself by using my mobile number. He Asked me to set Transaction pin as the last 4 digit of the concerned sbi card which was already known by him at the time of placing this IMT request in axis mobile app. He asked me to do a 5000 transaction in my axis Bank savings account under IMT Instant money transfer. And informed me the amount will transfer within you as you already registered your number as the payee only. I trusted him .

So using the IMT sms code received and shared with the discription in sbi bank official portal and using Transaction pin , the fraud person can easily withdraw the 5000 from any RBL ,Axis Bank ,Bank of India Kotak ,PNB ATMs as mentioned in IMT sms message received . He told me that the 5000 will be held as lien in sbi credit card and post converting the card to sbi BPCL rupay octane variant the amount will be credited back. But he already got the sms code to withdraw the money. He disconnected the call I called immediately on the number. But it was switched off. Then I came to know that I am a victim of a fraud.

Then I immediately called axis Bank on same day 24th November 2025 and registered a fraud complaint. And called cyber crime portal and registered the complaint for the same. Also registered a complaint with sbi card. Bank today closed the complaint by stating that it's a secured transaction done from my end and the responsibility on me only. I just got surprised how intelligently he took the IMT SMS code from me. By asking me to read the whole content in the sbi portal before submitting. So he could get the IMT code. Very smart approch where no traces of account transfer to any other, There is no ATM withdrawal using their account. Simply enter the code and get the cash. Saala ..!!!! I took his address which is fake and today the mobile number was out of service.

Be very very careful. I really surprised how that rascal got my mail content details which I sent to nodal officer directly?? Any sbi cards information breach?? How he got my mobile number by stating the issue .
He might be a person in this community also. So be careful while sharing any single piece of personal information in public...!!!
Any hope from sbi card end??? From cyber cell?
 
Yes you need to file fir and also with cyber police. But how on earth did you agree for amount as banks do not ask for money or lien on cc to convert... this itself was a red flag... normally banks call only if you raise a compliant.. if you are not reachable they will send a email then you can reply. The only think is they can identify through cctv of ATM who withdrew funds...
I myself is a ex banker... but agree some do fraud... always remebet when someone says money your eye brows should raise... always record call and say will approach bran h and check.... immediately they will to disc9nnect or use abusing word and their tone will change... they will scare you that they will block the card or branch will not be helpful only on call or online.... dont believe all this if you are in doubt go to branch explain the manager abt incident and check your account and change the mobile no at branch for your account else monitor... otp should never be given to anyone.
I approched nearby police station yesterday. I asked for the FIR copy. They informed me that we need to talk with the S.I, C.I for the same and it will take time for the same. He told me the similar type of complaint registerd with them. A recent case happened that the person taken the bank account of a boy with Rs 5000 in which the account involved in a fraud based on maharashtra. Maharashtra police came here in Kerala and arrested the boy for giving the bank
account. I need the FIR as bank asked me to attach the same with axis complaint. I didn't understand why police is hesitating to file FIR then? Without registering FIR what will I do!!!!

He told me the similar type of complaint registerd with them. For just 5K, you want to go to the police ?
You must be doing another big mistake.

Take some advice from those who approached police for such small amount.

I am sure, you must have been prepared for a long headache n avoidable expenses. Good money after bad/lost money.

Sir this is my first time issue. May I know what is the big mistake in it?

Normally they give when you file a compliant asking them for first information report whi h is fir.. Bank needs this copy for investigation.. else you can just drop it taking this as a lesson... never in future give otp or when someone says need to pay upfront.. I too had a call for past 2 months stating to upgrade the idfc vistara to Indigo card offer was showing I told them I will not pay anything before receiving the card. This is not how bank works she tried convincing me for this card they are taking upfront fee 4999plus gst she said will send link. I said no I won't pay but u can upgrade it once statement comes will pay... see this is another fraud type..... that is happening... always decline when you are asked money or otp. Go to branch or card services of the bank and tell them this is what reps are saying they will decline stating it is not the procedure...

Police/Bank/RBI keep telling do not share OTP with anyone...You didn't listen to them and now system is not listening to u.

Bachchan sahab ka ad toh dekha hoga ki OTP kisi ke saath share na kare
 
bro...u happily shared OTP, which is ur consent to withdraw the money

Rather wasting ur time and arguing, first understand what is fraud as per RBI?

Accept that under greed, you made mistake...Learn from it and move on in life
Yes I know it's my mistake also. What you see here as greed?? If he tells you about the mail content which u shared with the nodal directly and asking you for the resolution, will you also trust him??

We would like to inform you that we have thoroughly investigated your concerns regarding the IMT transaction of ₹5,005.90 dated 24-11-2025.


Narration: 24 Nov 2025 - MBS/0123456789/INSTANT MONEY TRANSFER/ 5005.90

As per the initial investigation, the transaction was successfully processed and confirmed through Electronic Journal (EJ) logs provided by our ATM vendor and the acquiring bank. Based on these records, the claim was initially declined. However, we understand your escalation and the need for further verification.

Please note the following resolution process as per RBI and NPCI guidelines:

(a) For disputed ATM cash withdrawal transactions, the issuing bank cannot independently adjudicate the case since two banks are involved.

(b) The final resolution requires coordination through the system provider (NPCI) between the issuing and acquiring banks.

(c) A conclusive denial response must be supported by EJ logs and CCTV/PIN-hole footage evidencing proper cash dispensation.

(d) We have initiated a request for CCTV footage and trace logs from the acquiring bank and will share updates as soon as they are received.

We acknowledge your request for:

(a) Refund/Reversal under RBI fraud guidelines

(b) Non-Liability Certificate (NLC)

(c) Dispute memo to Empays and ATM acquirer
